Default Other Colorado cities similar to Durango, CO?

I absolutely love Durango, CO. It's small without being tiny, has a young population, and is in the mountains. I want to work in sports however, and there are no sports jobs there. Denver is a sports mecca, but not mountainish enough. How close is it to the mountains? What about Boulder or Colorado Springs compared to Durango, CO?

The Front Range where Denver and the Springs are located is very different from Durango. However, the good news is that they are very close to the mountains. You can be in the mountains in minutes, depending where you live from either city.

If a decent paying job is what you seek, I'd stay away from small mountain towns in Colorado altogether. I live near Durango, and while it is a nice little town, it's being quickly overrun by millionaire second home owners from the coasts and trustafarians, because no one else can afford to live there any longer.

From my point of view, there are basically three types of people anymore who live in Durango: people who made their money somewhere else and brought it with them; young people, mostly college students and ski bums, subsidized by their parents who are making loads of money somewhere else; and people who simply survive and scrape by on meager incomes produced by the limited service-oriented local economy. In between, in terms of a true "middle class", there's not much.

There are a few other small towns in Colorado that offer similar attractions to Durango- Glenwood Springs, Salida, and Gunnison come to mind- but they have the same issues, and you're not likely to be able to find a well-paying job in any bof those places, either.

If you want my true opinion, if you want to find a decent job in that particular line of work, you'll have to go to a larger city, and the best choice which would offer the most outdoor activities within close proximity would be Salt Lake City, hands down. That would be my recommendation over Denver.

Try Manitou Springs. It's close enough to Colorado Springs for work but is it's own little town with character in the mountains. I like Durango better but Manitou is pretty neat. It's way more affordable then Durango.
