it gets just as cold here as upstate new york, but we don't have as much snow, and the temps occasionally get into the 60's.

Just for the view, i'd consider Woodland Park or Green mountain falls

I suggest Buena Vista, altho $250,000 still isn't going to buy much. They are in the "banana belt", have a golf course, and the people we've met have been very accepting of new-comers.

I grew up near Buffalo and I have been in Colorado for 30 years. The weather is not too cold and not too hot--just right.

I would suggest Westminster and Arvada. These homes will have many good homes within your budget.

Check out zip 80031 in Westmister, two golf courses within minutes, Hyland Hills, Legacy Ridge.

Adjacent Zip 80003 in Arvada, Westmister, an additional Golf course, Lake Arbor

Zip Code, adjacent across Wadsworth, 80005 in Arvada, Indian Tree Golf Course.

Golf Courses Close by in Arvada: Westwood; in Westminster: Broadlands; in Denver: Willis Case

I would suggest zip 80005 in Arvada for beautiful homes, nice established, safe area, many parks, lakes, edge of Westminster and close to all the Golf Courses I mentioned within 30 minutes. You should be able to find a good home for under $250,000.

If you're wanting to escape the cold of upstate NY, I would suggest areas around metro Denver, not in the mtns. I have lived in upstate NY (Albany and Ithaca), and the Denver area has much milder winters. The mountains have harsher winters than NY.

Louisville (80027) and Lafayette (80026) have golf courses and reasonably priced homes. Ditto Broomfield (80020 and others). Most people here are pretty accepting.
