How conservative are people in the Rifle area along I-70
How conservative are people in the Rifle area along I-70? I don't want to move from one area of the US that is intolerant of anyone or thing that does not look or sound as they do. To be honest, I am tattooed along my legs and upper arms and my nose is pierced. My husband is equally tattooed as well, we are educated and easy going. Any insight into what type of town Rifle really is would be great...we are living in the south right now and could use a change in climate as well as culture. So does anyone have anything to say about the area and the people around Rifle, Parachute, even up towards Meeker....?????

Rifle is a pretty conservative area. I go through there atleast once a month, and I've seen hardley any Obama signs, and a decent amount of McCain's.
I don't think you'll have a problem either way as Coloradoans are pretty much "live and let live".
Just don't go messing with peoples guns.

Thanks...glad to hear Coloadoans are the "live and let live" type. Don't plan on messing with peoples guns, we have our own, so I don't think that is a problem.

My experience is that the conservative areas are more live and let live while the liberal areas tend to be less tolerant.
Nobody will care about tattoos in Rifle, but you'll catch all kinds of **** if you wear fur or voice any kind of negative opinion about Prius owners in Boulder.
Rifle is historically conservative, but it is currently full of oil field workers, which makes it a lot more diverse than what you'd normally expect to see in a rural area of Colorado.

Conservative, definitely, but more in a libertarian way than a Colorado Springs "family values" way. I'm not sure you'll find a lot of cultural amenities, because it's a small town, but you won't be made uncomfortable.

Thank you all for your input, but after some serious looking about at real estate and not wanting to take on a $300,000+ loan for a house that would be a lot less in other parts of the US, we have decided to not take the job. Even with my husband's federal job...this place is too far out of our range and perhaps a bigger city would be better. Thanks again.

Yes, I've always been amazed at how camo wearing, blaze orange types are intimidated, and feel threatened by hippies.
The left is self righteous. The right is intimidating and intolerant.
