Default For me it would be...

In this order:
Durango
Grand J
Alamosa
Glenwood Spr

Definitely not the other 4, but that's just me. And I've been to all of em.
Lived in Aurora. Aurora and Denver, basically same-same

If you pick Aurora...suggest Cherry Creek Schools

As far as living area...choose S. Aurora rather than northern part. I lived in SE Aurora all my life for 30 years up until 5 years ago, I wouldnt live anywhere north of Iliff and anywhere west of Hampden....but again, thats just me. God luck! --Michelle

Durango is done, stick a fork in it. (Used to meet your criteria)
None of your other choices meet all of your criteria (never did)
Do you need a job, or a place to operate a business?
Been to all of them, lived on the Western slope for 35+ years.

Personally I would stick with working in Denver or Aurora. If you ever need to change jobs the prospects may be somewhat limited in the some of the other areas (depending on your filed of course).

Regarding where to live I really like Douglas County. Some of the best schools in the state, very safe neighborhoods, about 1.5 hours to very good skiing (traffic permitting), great shopping (Park Meadows Mall is amazing). You can buy a very nice house in Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Parker, or Castle Rock for under $350k.

What about Northern Colorado Springs (Briargate), Monument, Palmer Lake area.

Other then that I would say you cant go wrong with Douglas County and South-east Aurora

On your list, my choices would be as follows starting with most favorite first(havent been to Brush or know much about Glenwood Springs so I cant comment on them)
Durango-my favorite.
Grand Junction more on the desert side but a nice city.
Denver - It is large, you didnt mention how big a city you want.
I wouldnt recommend Aurora or Craig.
Alamosa is mostly a Hispanic town and really cold in winter. I am Hispanic so doesnt bother me but might bother some but cold does bother me and it is cold there.
Pueblo - there are nice areas but there are some not so nice areas, desert looking like Farmington where I live.
Would add Colorado Springs if you like a more conservative city too.

I think it would be good to know if you're looking for more of an urban setting, or a smaller town. If you are looking urban, the Denver area is your best bet. More jobs, good shopping, schools, etc. Aurora is essentially a suburb of Denver, and if you are looking for a more suburban setting I would recommend looking at suburbs other than Aurora (like Centennial, Littleton, Highlands Ranch).

Grand Junction is nice for a smaller city. If you want a town, from your list my personal favorite is Glenwood Springs, but there are pluses and minuses to each town you listed.

I should have told in my original Post that I am not worried about work. I will be with a federal agency and have my choice to any of those locations.

If I do NOT choose Denver, I would want the extreme opposite....i.e mountain living/privacy/views/outdoor activity easy commute to amenities etc.

Which of those would you reccommend?

I am familiar with Crested butte and gunnison.....I would like somthing similar to either of those places.

Thanks!
