I have lived in La Junta since 1997. It is small, mostly rural, and located on the plains, which isn't what most people expect to find in Colorado. The people are very friendly and it's a nice place to raise kids. We have a good hospital and a junior college. The city park is very nice and has a pond where kids 12 and under can fish for free.

Unfortunately, the job outlook is poor and there's not much in the way of culture or entertainment. The only theater in town has been closed several years now. Most folks either shop at the local Walmart or drive 60 miles to Pueblo.

The weather can be very extreme here. We've had two major blizzards (over 36 inches of snow both times) since I've lived here. We've also recently experienced the worst drought in over a century. Frankly, we're hoping to move to a more moderate climate now that our children are older and college bound. I will miss the friendliness of this town though. It's nice to go to the bank and actually have them know your name.

If you go to wikipedia and search on La Junta, CO you'll find some good information and a link to the city's website. From the city's website, you'll get to view some nice pics of the area. Make sure you look at the 2006 blizzard pics.....they're unbelievable.
