I have been here a year and still have a very dry nose I use nasel spray, I have bad allergies here to the rag weed because there is ALOT of " natural " areas here. my eyes are dry and get red and water i now have a prescription for my eye allergies and a perscription I take orally as well for my hay fever. I use a humidifier daily even though i notice it dont help much. I think different people adjust differently some poeple move here and have no problems others like myself are constantly ill. So I think it all depends on the person. My children all have really bad allergies here as well.

I lived in the Denver area for a few years in the early 90's. My sinuses were never so good, and breathing through my nose so easy. I've had more much problems in humid areas of the country (i.e. southeast). The dry suits me really well.

We've only been here a week, and this time has been unseasonably warm, up into the 80's almost every day, and windows open at night. The pain in my sinuses is brand new for me and is keeping me awake with the fear that moving here late in my life, (I'm 67), my body won't ever get acclimated. We did buy a floor-standing humidifier and I think it helps...I sure pour enough water in the basin! Should I get one for the bedroom as well? Any recommendations for us?

Some people report regular use of fish oil helping with dry eyes etc. Others say taking an antihistamine regularly helps. Some use nasal sprays, eye drops, or humidifiers. I don't think one thing works for all people all the time.

The very best thing is to have an in duct steam system installed directly on your furnace.

I learned to use one of these:
How to use a NeilMed NasaFlo Neti Pot (For hay fever, sinusitis, and nasal allergies) : NeilMed Blog

As strange as it sounds, it works very well and was part of my life in beautiful Colorado...what I found out was, when I shared this, it was part of their daily habit.

I have severe sinus issues that are related to changes in weather, not allergies - I'm a human barometer, according to the allergist I saw. Surgery helped a little, but I still have to say that my sinuses are better here than in Jersey (where humidity, slow-moving weather fronts, etc. abound).

Neti pots and humidifiers are both useful if the problem is from the dryness specifically. For me, if the weather is going through a dramatic change, it's an issue of pressure. There's not much I can do but take a bunch of anti-inflammatories and knock myself out with some antihistamines. Or eat a bunch of edibles.

If it's dryness that is the problem, that's easily combatted. If it's air pressure changes, there's not much you can do. But Colorado is better for that than a lot of places.

But yes, your headache could have been largely related to the altitude.

The combination of high altitude, dry air and dust cause me to have sinus issues primarily only in the spring, when I first start working in the yard heavily again.

I've found that a dust mask, saline spray and a week of Allegra typically do the trick.

I'd say your headache was probably an altitude problem most likely. My ILs get bad headaches when they come visit, and when I come back and forth between here and back in home, I have to readjust, and I'm in CS. My sinuses... Well I never had much of an issue with them before moving here. I have a humidifier going almost nonstop once it cools down in late September, and and have tried nasal sprays. I'm no help though, I get nosebleeds several times a week from (very gently) wiping/blowing my nose throughout the year here and haven't found anything to remedy it aside from leaving the state.
