Default Romantic Ski Resorts?????

I'm wondering if everyone can give me some suggestions of romantic ski resorts? Especially any that are kind of "unknown" ......... I guess what I'm looking for is more of a romantic "town" or setting that's sort of CLOSE to a ski resort. A place where you can rent a nice log cabin? Or has really rustic looking rooms for rent in a "unknown" kind of hotel?????

It's hard to describe.......

If anyone knows sort of what I"m talking about please respond and let me know of any interesting log cabiny, ski resorty kind of places

Monarch (west of Salida) is a good start. You can rent log cabins in some of the smaller areas nearby (poncha springs, etc.).
Too bad Cuchara isn't open this year, that would be a good one.
Monarch isn't as touristy and there are plenty of non-commercial places to stay. Try googling the area.
Good Luck and have fun!

I don't have any specific recommendations on places to stay, but my recommendation is Crested Butte. It's a bit harder to get to and the small town is really neat. My idea of a romantic get-away is a bed and breakfast, and I bet there are lots of cool ones there. Also check out vacation rentals by owner, you may be able to find a small cabin for rent.

P.S.
Even though it is more well known, Steamboat Springs is awesome!!
There is an area called Strawberry Park and, there is 3 hot pools that go down on the side of the mountain ( when I was there, there was a tepee to change in) I was there at dark and, you could see all the stars as it was very dark and,...romantic!!
It is a little hard to get to but, totally worth it!!
I like the town and sometimes there are hot air balloons around!! very nice!

Check out the Nordic Inn b&b on Mt. Crested Butte. Getting down to town is easy-theres a bus stop right across from this place.
Judy and Allen Cox are the owners, and are great people.

You may want to check out Devils Thumb Ranch - a very romantic resort with restaurant and spa that is also just 20 minutes from Winter Park Ski Resort. It sits in a valley just below the Continental Divide and offers a very remote location with spectacular views.

Cordillera Lodge was bought and gutted and totally renovated after that, so there is no "Kobe Room".

In terms of Vail, I guess Cordillera is more a romantic place if you are looking to be away from people, if that's what ones definition of romantic may include.

If you are looking for more of the rustic type cabin romantic, it would not be Vail, Summit County or Aspen.

Do a google search for Vail cabins ...

There's a fair number of outfits that will come up for your selection in the downvalley area, and there's a lot of them throughout the region. Wolcott to State Bridge has some at ranches through that area, Silverthorne down along the Blue River heading toward Green Mtn Reservoir has some, and there's cabins around Minturn to Edwards. There's also some around Keystone, down from the Dillon area.

Chosing a place will depend greatly upon what you consider "romantic" ... a single isolated cabin in the woods, one at a lodge or ranch outfit, or one at a hotel (not quite so private) ... what amenities you want (private hot tub, kitchen, local services/dining, etc.), how close you want to be to the slopes .... some cabins are ski-in/ski-out, so not very remote, but very comfortable and convenient and cozy in the evenings ....

A lot will depend upon your budget. I've stayed slopeside in a "cabin" at Steamboat that was ski-in/ski-out and a very privately located 5bedroom/6bath affair ... muti-levels, lots of architectural features ... and rented for $1,000/nite during ski season back in 1980 when I stayed there. Fortunately for me, I was there in off-season ... and comp'ed.

I've also stayed many a night at a friend's "cabin" on a creek outside of Aspen (a few miles up the road from the School of Music), located in a dense bunch of trees against a hillside on 3 acres and totally remote from any other development/housing ... with a hot tub deck that was cantilevered out over the creek. The place was built up as a rustic 3 bedroom house around an original non-winterized log cabin, so had "interior" walls that were the original log cabin ... very cozy, very remote (yet accessible, 15 minutes out of town in the winter), very private .... and rented out during "high season" for $10,000/month during the 1980-1990's. Some years it was rented out for Christmas or New Year's, some years it wasn't and we stayed there for a week or two. I had a key to the place and an open invitation to use it whenever it was vacant during my travels .... Unfortunately, it's now been sold and the new owners get $12,000/month high season or $7,500/month in the summers and it only leases out by the month. But it's one of many places offering privacy, seclusion, comfort, and a very romantic environment available in the area; many are available for a couple of nights (minimum stay) at a reasonable cost. You'll need to contact the property management/rental agencies in Aspen to find out what's available/pricing ... which may be more reasonable than you expect if you can stay mid-week or in an off-peak time during the ski season.

The owners of a lot of these places well realize that they have a perishable commodity ... and last minute bookings at a lower price are better than a vacant place.

Bottom line: there are a lot of suitable places to select from at reasonable rates available in "ski country" Colorado ... Eagle, Pitkin, Summit, and Grand Counties. Do your research at a comfortable price point and I'm sure you'll find something that will be just fine for your get-away.

Personally, I think rustic cabin romantic is an oxymoron. However, you could join the 10th mountain division hut group and reserve a ski-in cabin for next season.....

Or just go to one of the many very well known ski areas all over Colorado and find a smaller place, the Chambers of Commerce can give you details on any type of lodging you want.
