Default Where in the world is kerosene?

I was in the hardware the other day and someone asked me if I knew where he could get bulk kerosene. Is there a part of the country that still uses kerosene? I'm not aware of any in CO.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you. Do you mean you can't buy a portable kerosene heater and fuel in CO to use if the power goes out during an emergency? Here in Missouri you can buy kerosene heaters at Wal-Mart and building material stores, and you can buy kerosene at gas stations. Such a convenience comes in handy during an ice storm.

Try looking for a bulk dealer in the yellow pages under Fuels, Oils ....

at least around here, it's still readily available in bulk

You could always find a smaller airport and buy the jet fuel. Which is basiclly the same thing. But you are looking at 5 plus per gal.

Sorry, is everyone posted but one from Colorado? I've heard True Value Hardware carries gallon containers of kerosene. Google kerosene and I found a petroleum company in CO Springs so it is available in a limited way. Thanks for the replies.

You'll also find K-1 kerosene in 5 gallon cans at Home Depot and Lowes in Colorado, as they sell space heaters that are kerosene fueled ... wick type and torpedo types.

I didn't mention that because you'd asked about "bulk" purchase, for which I thought you meant larger volume purchases, such as 30-55 gallons (or more). In the mountain areas, you may still find independent gas stations that sell kerosene from a pump for bulk sales. Our CO-OP store has it, too. We use it for space heaters and lighting in the barns and workshop, as well as Aladdin lamps in our house during power outages.
