Default Moving to Colorado.. but where?

Hello to everyone! Well, Im starting here because I'm quite tired of New Jersey and have been dreaming of Colorado for quite sometime now. I love the snow and cold winter and there is none of that here!!! Im just sick of all the crazy/rude people and the mild winters. From what I hear, people in Colorado are such "lovely" and "amazing" people!!

My girlfriend and I are going to be coming out to Colorado sometime in March of 2010 when the lease of our apartment is up. We are 22 and 20 and have our whole lives ahead of us so I want to make this transition as good as possible. Seems so far away but we want to start preparing and saving. I really don't know where to start... Before we met, I always loved Breckenridge but it seems so small and away from everything. I'd like any help on a place to live. Here are my specs!

1) Friendly people.
2) Girlfriend is a hair dresser here so somewhere close to higher population so she can stay in her profession and MAKE MONEY! no more than 30 minute commute.
3) Least crime and trouble-free town.
4) Mountain town like Breckenridge but higher population and closer to major city. Skiing/snowboarding close to home. Lots of snow. Close to shopping. Scenic.. Family oriented with festivals/activities.
5) $1000-$1400 rent. Preferably a small cabin to rent at first not an apartment. if apartment, pet friendly.

I hope I'm not being too crazy with this. It seems possible and I know the reality of things but as close to this as possible will be great! Were great people with great personailities and want to put it somewhere where it can be aprreciated. New Jersey is so miserable!!!! I know I have to come and visit... but where?

Thanks for listening and cant wait to hear back!!!!!!!!

1) Welcome to Colorado
2) Anywhere along the Front Range.
3) It is all relative. I just came from Las Vegas so the lack of crime in Colorado in general is nice.
4) Snowboarding is close EVERYWHERE west of Aurora.
5) Good luck with that in the mountain towns. A few years back we paid double that (for a hovel) in Brek during the summer. Come to Denver, you will love it. As far as being pet friendly, I have not met many here who do not have pets so you will be fine.

for cost alone I look at living west Lakewood.
you are very close to Golden and Mtn acess without the cost.

If you can afford it Golden would be great as Evergreen or Morrison
