best mountain towns closest to denver?
My gf and I (22 and 20) are moving from NJ next year and were looking for the best mountain town within commuting distance (20-40) miles to denver.. Were looking for a fun/safe town that gets a lot of snow. The closest to a christmas card picture? LOL.
Any info will help! Thanks for reading

How much are you willing to spend? If money is an issue, it's too far away.

I suggest you live and work in the metro area, and visit the mountain towns for fun. Otherwise we'll be seeing a poster named costinks0733 a year from now!

Evergreen, Morrison, Lookout Mountain. In that order.

You need to move to Conifer, not Evergreen. Conifer gets pounded with snow and Evergreen doesn't.
You need to go to Conifer and take that hwy 73 or whatever that road is that heads north towards Evergreen, then turn left on Shadow Mnt rd which becomes Black Mountain Drive, and buy the house on the right side right where the road goes from paved to dirt. As you continue on that road, it becomes S Brook Forest Rd and it takes you to Maxwell Falls. If you continue on, it takes you back onto 73 and becomes Evergreen.
This is the place you need to live and it's right here. I would recommend a Subaru for her and an old but in good shape 4 cylinder Toyota Landcruiser for you. They're tight and have a low center of gravity and do fantastic in the snow.
Welcome to Colorado. It might be a bit pricey up there, but get good jobs in Denver, maybe the Tech Center, and you're about 40+ miles to work and it's a fantastic commute. If you can do that and live up there for 2 years plus, you're officially designated "Mountain People". I recommend a pellet stove for the winter and you won't need AC. Oh, and you'll have a little babbling brook in your back yard and a wrap around deck and can have some fantastic parties right there in your back yard. My friends lived there years ago and we had camp fires going right there in their back yard. Chucked many an empty Tequila bottle into that fire pit! Probably a few bottles of Captain Morgan too.

Reason: After google mapping this, that place may be history!

I say head to above Boulder.....Rollinsville, Ward, Nederland, Gold Hill. At your age do the whole 70's hippie thing while you can. From what I remember it was alot of fun....

thanks so far... remarks.
Well coming from NJ, We dont want to be around tons of people. We are looking into renting a cabin or home for the first year. As far as money goes, were paying 1700 a month not including utilities for a new loft apartment. We can get something new for almost half that out there. Its rediculous with the cost of living here and people are so rude and unthoughtful and everything is dirty!!! So much poverty and broken homes as well. I commute almost 2 1/2 hours each way (5 total) a day on the train because I cant even afford a car here. Were going to start saving this upcoming summer really hard so money shouldnt be a big issue. I want to try and find a job bartending(probably a part-time as well to be safe with cash) and/or something where I can meet people and make some nice young friends. Were not big partiers but we do like to have people over to hang out and relax. Going out to bars here turns into fighting all the time because people never respect you or your girlfriend and its drunken a$$holes starting fights everywhere. Shes a hair dresser for super cuts and is looking to relocate through her job in lakewood or denver so she can keep her benefits at first unless we she can find something closer in town.
We'd like something where we can have a cute cabin in a little cute town(maybe right outside of town); with a cool main street or something where we can walk around or stop into a local bar/restaurant regularly and grab a drink and bite to eat. Were both going to be coming with 4x4 SUV's so the commute wont be too bad. I personally love the winter and cant wait to commute it the snow but her on the other hand is going to be my only concern. Conifer or Evergreen sounds like a great place for that so far. Conifer more because of more snow. Plus they're half way to both Breck and Denver which seem to be awesome places to visit. I love from what I see in the pics from breck though and probably will be there more than denver. My friends work out there from Jersey now and love it.

If you want to do the cabin thing, I'd recommend Nederland rather than Conifer. It is commutable to Boulder, by bus, too, if the snow gets to you. Your price expectations are a little low.
