Most snowfall in one year - Wolf Creek Pass, CO - 520 inches in 1947-48
Most snowfall in one day - Georgetown, CO - 63 inches on Dec 4, 1913

As far as actual towns that get a lot of snow, check out Steamboat Springs. Also, last winter Crested Butte got over 4 feet in one storm and Silverton had over 60 inches from a single storm as well.

Thanks. We get more snow than most of the Front Range and it can be a hassle sometimes, but it looks like a postcard after a good snow.

Yea what exactly is jazzlovers problem? He seems like a typical pissy Colorado native who gripes about anyone who is not from there. This forum is to get real live human answers. Not some website junk. Anyways. VFRPILOT....LOVE the picture. I"ve never seen that much snow. So do you work in monument? What larger city is that close to? I would love to live in a tiny little mountain town but i'd have to find a decent job. Of course....being debt free really helps that out alot!

Monument is connected to the north end of Colorado Springs. We can drive to downtown COS in about 30 min and to the Denver Tech Center in about an hour. We are also the highest point(about 7300') along I-25 in the Front Range area, the reason for the snowfall amounts and the commuter's headache known as Monument Hill.
I work from home and travel a lot.
Do a search on 'Monument' to find more info.

After you answer the same inane questions for the 50th time, one's patience tends to run thin. People don't understand that climate and weather are two different things. The old meteorologists' saying is that "climate is what you expect; weather is what you get." Climate is what is typical, average over a period of time. If you are going to live somewhere, it's probably good to know what the typical climate conditions will be over the long haul. As to "weather"--that's what is happening from day-to-day. 12" of snow in Monument the other day is a weather event. Monument's average winter snowfall over many years of record-keeping is a representation of typical "climate."

Weatherbase and other climate sites give good information--better than any individual can (especially if they haven't lived in a place for an extended period of time)--when it comes to what kind of climate a place has for someone to live with. Those sites often also list weather extremes--the highest and lowest tempertaures ever recorded, highest daily precipitation, etc. Those are good indicators of how variable the weather is and how much it deviates from the norm. Generally speaking, many areas of Colorado have a relatively mild overall climate, but generally also have extreme weather variations from day-to-day, month-to-month, and year-to-year. In that sense, Colorado weather can be called "extreme" compared to many areas.

Basing one's relocation decisions on anecdotal weather information posted on this forum--no matter how well-intentioned the answer that is posted by the person replying--is not very prudent. So, that "website junk"--which by the way, is generally compiled from long-term observations by trained weather observers--is a much better indicator of the climate of a given place than is the casual observations of a person of a relatively short span of weather events.

There's also an automated weather reporting station at Monument Hill. The elevation rises there enough to definitely change the weather.
