The scenes you show in your photos are gorgeous. I guess the snow does become rather tiresome after a few months, but for those of us who spend a fortune flying back and forth to be in the snow, it's a sight to behold.
What sort of employment situation exists in the Winter Park/Granby/GrandLake/Steamboat Springs area? Are the jobs primarily seasonal and tourist related?
|
I'm probably not the best person to ask about employment in these towns. Most jobs are definately in the hospitality / tourism industries and they are seasonal, but you can still find alternative work, especially as a trades person, electricians, plumber, etc. My fiancee works for the Sheriffs Department but I'm a Project Mining Engineer and work in Australia. My work flys me there for 3 weeks (I live on the mine in mining accommodation), and then back home for 3 weeks off. So I've never actually worked in Grand Lake. My entire time home is leasure time.

Thanks Minx. I won't be job hunting, but rather seeking employees for my company. Being as remote as Granby and Grand Lake are from the demographics we seek for the business will probably rule them out as potential home sites. But they sure do look like a fantastic place to visit at Christmas and my wife was thrilled when I showed her the photos you were so kind to share.
Have a great day.

We are back. Unfortnuately we couldn't enjoy the snowy outdoors as much as we wanted, cause our toddler got of course sick just when we arrived at the Winding River Resort But it still was beautiful! Great tip, Mike! I can only imagine how gorgeous this place must be in the summer time.
At first we were worried about there being enough snow, cause pretty much after passing Fraser until getting to Grand Lake there was very little snow. But it started snowing all day long and the Resort, even though being only about 2 miles behind Grand Lake town had plenty of snow. So we did get to have our horse sleigh ride and we loved it!!! Loved the room (trapper room), loved the silence out there...we sure will be back!
@Minx
We also went to Max &t's for dinner ( didn't see any snowmobiles outside parked though). Food was good, service great and loved the atmosphere inside with the fireplace and christmas carols..view of the snowy streets outside.
it was cold for sure. Yesterday morning as we left at 8 am we had 11F....brrrr.
@MountainViews
here are some of the promised pics...enjoy

Yes, thank you very much for sharing the photos. The place looks beautiful. That marshmallow looked really tasty too!!!
I'm anxious for the Christmas holiday to arrive. I need to revisit the beauty of northern Colorado and escape the rat race here in utopia for a few days.
Thanks again for sharing the pics!!
