My family and I are considering buying land to build in CO and wondering about the racial vibe esp around Denver and CSprings. I am mixed race black and my husband is Russian (white) and we are wondering if we should expect more than the "Oh- interesting family" glances?

We have lived in NYC, northern VA and MN and don't necessarily expect people to meet us at the airport with "Free Hugs" signs. However, cool neighbors, decent land prices, and a lack of racial hostility would be really cool.

Thanks for your input!

You won't have trouble here. Our population (minority that is) is primarily hispanic. So we have hispanic pockets all through Denver and off of Federal. We have a strong Asian community off of Federal too. Cherry Hills is upscale, mostly white. But that is about all of the generalizations I can think of. Highlands Ranch is homogeneous, republican, conservative. But there is no hint of racial prejudice I can think of, and I am a teacher here. We have, in west HR, a large pocket of Russian immigrants. In Littleton, where my daughter goes to school, there is a variety of kids from different races too. But race just never has seemed to come up as an issue in my experience.

On my old street we had a Shri Lankan, Iranian, White, Iraqui, Hispanic and an assortment of Bachelors and Single parents. And that was Highlands Ranch. We were fast friends and helped dig each other out during heavy snows.

Enjoy life, you will be welcome here.
