If they want to make Pueblo another country and give us foreign aid then they can call me immigrant or refugee if they want! A couple of billion a year should be more then enough....

I didn't expect to stir up this kind of a discussion! Thank you to the people who responded with helpful responses, both positive and negative. I know there are bad things about every place and that is what I was trying to find out, both good and bad points about the state. Hopefully I will move next door to one of you people who have such a negative view of people from California and be able to show you that some of us are humble, normal, down-to-earth people.

In response to vegaspilgrim, I am NOT one of those people.

It's not that I think I'm too good for the eastern plains, we have 2 very good reasons for wanting to move to the western mountainous part of the state. We love the mountains, and we love to ski/snowboard. The mountain areas in CA are either extremely expensive or government owned.

I wouldn't know that Evergreen and Conifer are mountain suberbia since I have never been to either, which is the reason I started this post in the first place, to get information about these and other areas.

We moved from La Junta Colorado to Tucson Arizona, and I cannot believe the way people treat one another here, I really want to move back. I am so miserable here. I have never been around soo many rude people all at once in my life. I use to think I hated the small town but now that I have left I can see how that town was a community, too bad I had to uproot my family to see it, and now my husband does not want to go back, he also hates it here, sorry about bashing arizona, just miserable and wanted to voice my opinion.

Default La Junta ....Eastern Plains ....worth a look

Thank you to Sheila R from Tucson for the nice words about La Junta.

We are a town of about 8,000 in the Southeastern part of Colorado. We are on historic (3,073 miles long, coast to coast) US Highway 50, have great schools, friendly people and a great place to raise kids. Have been here 38 years, 3 grown daughters, two have come back to live, brought spouses and grandchildren, all but grandchildren (3 yrs and 3 months) have found good jobs!

www.lajuntaeconomicdevelopment.net has more information and links if you are interested.

Plenty of open spaces for horses, etc., and just general enjoying the view and being able to see for 100 miles!

As far as employment options, we just had a business announce that they will be moving most of their operation here in the next two years from Las Vegas, NV...www.liqcrytech.com Bonnie Plants will be opening a 13 bay distribution greenhouse in our 1,500 acre Industrial Park this month. We have a state of the art medical facility, manufacturing facilities that are looking for good employees.

We are not surrounded by mountains, but my wife and I have property in the Sangre de Cristo range about 1 hour and 40 minutes from our house (Cuchara). Great views, etc....but we don't have to put up with the winter snows

For more about small town activities, etc., check out www.lajuntaevents.com and check out this past summer. Also, you might look at www.musicatthejunction.com (Foghat was here last year)

Please feel free to check out www.lajuntaeconomicdevelopment.net

We are in the Arkansas River Valley...irrigated farm land and great crops.

We have 2 museums in town, Ben'ts Old Fort Historic Site, dinasaur tracks and historic petroglyphs within 45 minute drive. One of the museums (Koshare Indian Kiva and Museum) is home to a Scout Troop that has more Eagle Scouts than any other troop in US! Plus a multi-million dollar native American Museum.

You can drive to Trinidad, CO(quaint historic coal mining town...1 hour away...pop about 8000) via highway 350 and then take the scenic Highway of Legends (Colorado Highway 12 )through the beautiful southern range of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains....(Cucharas Pass, Cuchara, La Veta).

We don't get as much splash as the touristy areas of Colorado....but we are certainly a much more welcoming area of the State.

Just a thought....would be glad to share more about other areas if you want information from an objective Colorado native.

We are 2.5 hours from Denver....have Bronco tickets...don't miss a tailgate or a game (2.5 hours to Invesco from house). Air Force Football is an easy ticket about 2 hours away.

Plenty of concerts, etc in Pueblo (1 hr), Colorado Springs (2hrs) and Denver (2.5 hrs.). We have

Once again...we are a quality small town and thank you to Sheila R for letting people know.

in response to my old message about la junta colorado, it is a very nice place to raise kids, I felt safe letting them go outside to play, the schools are great, my family always looked forward to the state fair that takes place in pueblo, there is also a county fair that is held in rocky ford, whenever you go shopping at the local wal-mart you know you would always run into an old friend that you havent seen in awhile, people for the most part will smile and greet you even if they don't know you. the local pool has a wonderful huge slide, i must say i got some speed on that thing. there is also a what use to be called holbrook lake, but is now a water hole, but still fun to go camping and we would ride four wheelers, you should see memorial and labor day weekend, that place gets hoppin. only now i know you have to have the bikes registered to be legal, thanks for reading my comments.

Hate to break it to you, but the western mountain areas of Colorado are no different--very expensive, especially in relation to local incomes. It's amazing to me how non-locals just can't see this--it's blatantly obvious to anyone who spent any time at all in rural Colorado.

Default Nice words about La Junta in Rocky Mountain News

The Rocky Mountain News (Denver's oldest newspaper) ran a nice article about La Junta on Friday, February 6.
Speaks volumes about the people and way of life....kudos to Tina Griego for a job well done.
