Well the shiny new rec centers are nice, but they are tax supported and most of the state is against that, except if it's for a special district which they foolishly think is NOT a taxing entity. It is, except you don't get to kick them out so easily as cities and county leadership.
I live in Denver and they have poor rec centers, poorly run, and very few have year round pools. The private rec centers are many and affordable, including the Y's On the other hand, some of the places mentioned have rec centers but usually they are large behemoths, centrally located. So if you want to gather like a huge urban tribe and sweat it out in a large place, be my guest. All I want is a small quiet indoor pool.

Personally I dont like either, I do my exercising from my elliptical runner at home and I have a small weight set. But I do think its nice that Pueblo is able to provide rec centers for people who like them, they are now building a new one in the former Minnequa Bank building In Bessemer here is the article:
"A health-care company catering to senior citizens will be setting up shop in the former Minnequa Bank building in Bessemer."
"The company, which has five centers in Denver and another in Albuquerque, N.M., provides the services to paying families and through the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs."

Contrary to any rumors I was not drunk in downtown Pueblo!
