I have become fascinated by Pueblo since these guys have started a marketing campaign or should I say "Blitzkrieg".
Yes, Pueblo is an area that needs more attention. It certainly has attracted mine as a retirement area. Not, that I think that I will move there, but I think that the area deserves much more state and national attention. It does have much to offer.
I have been looking at many websites. As I have said, I have been impressed by the City's website. Here is one link that is not much mentioned but it does provide good information about future planning for that region. It is the Pueblo Area Council of Government
http://www.pacog.net/index.htm It also has a very good map on trails and parks in Pueblo. Also, it talks about a subject which I think is important, transportation.
I have been looking at New Mexico and their marketing of their cities, like Las Cruces, on a national level as retirement places. These cities are high altitude dessert environments with low humidity; hot weather but not as hot as for example, Phoenix.
I think the Colorado Plains needs to encourage smaller cities to be retirement spots and the Arkansas River Valley area of the "Banana Belt" can certainly offer many amenities; being warmer and a high altitude like cities in New Mexico; not quite as hot but semi-arid.
It also should be noted that Kaiser Permanente of Colorado decided to expand their health plan, and especially the Medicare Plan offerings, into the Pueblo and Canyon City region. This was surprising to me considering that all the talk has been about the Fort Collins/Loveland area as being one of the best places to live and retire. Kaiser does not have a presence in these cities. In addition, Kaiser in Colorado Springs operates under their PPO plan with no HMO, and in Pueblo/Canyon city they are eventually going to implement their classic model HMO plan which is the main plain for the Medicare Advantage offering. Perhaps Kaiser knows that Pueblo will indeed attract significant retirees.
These are just thoughts...
