Default Horse Properties near Beulah, Rye or Colorado City?

My wife and I are in our mid 50's, have horses and wish to move back west where we are both from. We are now in Vermont (of all places) and are considering areas in S. Colorado.

We need a milder climate than Vermont although we are not opposed to some snow and cold. Just not that snow and ice that never goes away until spring.

We are basically country folks and would love a rural area that is within an hour of a city plus we need to find a few acres for our horses. We are pretty self sufficient however will need DSL of some sort due to our work situation.

We have read through threads about Belulah, Rye and Colorado City but can't find anything regarding horse related information.

Any input would be appreciated.

I think the Hatchet Ranch area may be helpful to you, as it's just north on I-25 about 5 to nine miles north of Colorado City.

I have some pics on my Colorado City Photo Threads 1 and 2; if you're willing to take a look at them you'll see that if you take the exit at MM 77, you'll be able to drive back along that Graneros Creek and find some nice land or maybe even some property for sale.

I've got a real estate guy in the area that I've referred a number of people to and have only heard good stuff about him. If you want his name and number, you can DM me for it.

The Stewart's in Colorado City had a nice piece of property and some nice horses back in the day. I don't know if they still own the property or if the ranch sold or was subdivided. They were surrounded by Hollydot and the golf course here in Colorado City.

All though I work in this town and my parents live here, I don't know much about horse property.

I used to work for a guy out in the now defunct Apache City area in Huerfano County about 5 miles south of exit or MM 71 just south of the historic (sort of ghost town) Greenhorn; Jerry Dixon. He raised Appaloosa show horses and his property bordered the Clinnon's property in Rye.

Don't know much about Beulah. Good luck with this.

I love hatchet Ranch, that is a area I could defiantly live in. Close to Pueblo, easy drive yet they get a lot of snow lol

I cant wait to see what that area is like in 10 years.

There is a tremendous horse culture all over Colorado - except for downtown Denver

Look in the index of threads in the various COLO forums under Equestrian. There are plenty of horsey areas in/around all the front range cities and the rest of the state as well.

Good luck in your search.
