I am currently in the process of relocating to Highlands Ranch, CO from VA and I want to get some information on before and after school care that is offered at the elementary schools and possibly the Junior High Schools.

I currently am able to drop my daughter off at school before school starts then is walked to class just before school starts. When school is over, she is able to go to the after school program until I pick her up, several hours later.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

We're moving to Highlands Ranch, too!

We just dropped in Monday to Coyote Creek Elementary and were given a Parents' Handbook to look through. Under "Child Care" it reads:

"An on-site childcare program is provided at Coyote Creek from 6:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.. This program provides recreational activities, arts, crafts, and field trips."

And there is a number to call for more information. You register at the school itself. I'd imagine all the elementary schools in HR have the same kind of system.

Hope that helps!

Here is the Douglas County Schools website...

http://www.dcsdk12.org/portal/page/portal/DCSD

Please notice that many of the elementary schools are year-round and tracked, meaning that only three-quarters of the children are in session at any one time. If you have never done year-round school, it can be a bit confusing.

School boundary maps are on the website, too, if you haven't yet decided on a particular neighborhood.

This website also has good information about school ratings and will allow you to compare public school options...

There are a variety of charter schools available, too, if you are inclined toward that option. Google is your best bet to find out more.

Best regards...Karen
