One piece of trivia about that area. People widely think that the Colorado state boundary is a perfect rectangle. It is not. There is actually an approximate half-mile jog in the Colorado/New Mexico border south/southwest of Chromo, Colorado. It is the result of a border dispute between Colorado and New Mexico as to the location of the state line, and was decided by the US Supreme Court in the 1920's, if memory serves me correctly.
Oh, you finally got my joke. So... who won the dispute?!!!!! So I'd like to know; is Colorado an inny or an outty?

The state line jogs south at a location basically south of Pagosa Springs, and stays at that latiude essentially all the way to the Kansas border.

Default Ski Trip Transportation

Myself and my son and nephew are traveling to Pagsoa Springs in early March 2009 to stay a few days and go skiing at Wolf Creek. We are staying in a condo in the downtown area of Pagsoa Springs and are planning on driving up to Wolf Creek every daywe are there. We are trying to rent a vehicle to travel from the Dallas area for this trip. 4WD vehicles are not prevalent to rent here. I found a V6 AWD Toyota Highlander and was wondering if it would be safe etc. to travel up the mountain to the ski area. Any advice on the vehicle or other tips to make the trip/stay better would be greatly appreciated.

No vehicle is safe on Wolf Creek Pass in March if you don't know how to drive on snow and ice. Period. An AWD Highlander will do fine if you do--but so will a front-wheel-drive car with snow tires and traction control in the hands of an experienced winter driver. Of course, you might luck out and the roads might be dry. Then again, maybe not.
