You are exactly what Pueblo needs to be honest! I love Pueblo, some would say to much in here lol, but part of Pueblo's problem has been the lack of new ideas from new people moving in. You should bring new and fresh ideas to a city that is on the cusp of major growth...... I wish you luck and if you have any questions I would be more then happy to do my best to answer them.....

There are clearly seperate followings of fans of Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Canon City, Castle Rock, Black Forest. Can someone please give my family and I a recommendation for which town would be the best for us? Being from Minnesota, I don't know much about any of these towns, except they have mild winters, especially compared to what we are used to and fed up with. We are a younger, conservative couple, with three children (although we homeschool, so the quality of schools is not of the upmost importance) we would like a small city/town with low crime, we don't want to pay an arm and leg for our house, we both work in the medical field...so a couple hospitals in the area would be a plus, and bonus would be small town charm/quaint feel with trees and greenery, not in the middle of a flat deserty plain. Also, a nice selection of churches...any suggestions? Any and all input would be wonderful. I'm sure we will need to end up visiting to get a real feel for these towns, but I'm hoping to get a starting point here and narrow our search to a couple towns. Thanks in advance for your responses and opinions.

Well first of all Minn_Mom, I commend you for giving a good description for what you want and don't want. But you put this in the Let's-Bash-Pueblo-Forum which was originally set up to slam one poster that's an advocate of the town.
That being said, I don't think Pueblo is for you anyway and I think you'll get more hits in the Colorado Springs subforum. You may have already posted a similar post there as well, but if you didn't... I encourage you to look through this link that MFBE set up for that area that has a bunch of great info for you in one place.
Some people would probably recommend the Briargate area or up north throughout the Palmer Lake/Monument area. Colorado Springs has bigger and better hospitals than Pueblo does and although you homeschool your children, what about high school and college? Do you want to be near these places for the future? I think these are the kinds of questions other posters in here will ask you.
Good luck and welcome to City-Data and Colorado.
Add: Minn_mom, now your 5 component list has me worried. Affordable becomes a problem as you move from Colorado Springs to Denver while being also safe, within 30 miles of larger Hospitals AND being in lots of trees AND having charm and quaint feel. You're right. That's heaven, or Front Range meets NoCal.
Here's my Compromise Triange for Colorado; just change the middle to say Colorado Springs to Monument area;
Add: Note to Joss

Well then don't go recommending Pueblo over the north section of Colorado Springs to the Palmer Divide!
Ahhh Joss! You went there AGAIN! :stab self in the eye: :stab self in the eye: :stab self in the eye:

OK, after thinking about what I wrote, I thought I'd simplify my post, since the place I just described is Heaven and not accessible at this point in time. I will list in order of importance to us what we would like in a town and if anyone thinks they have a location that fits the bill, please share!
1. affordable (We would like to be able to get a 3 or 4 bedroom home for around 230,000, a pool a plus!)
2. relatively safe (the least murders and rapes and muggings, the better)
3. within 30 miles of a larger hospital
4. beautiful view of mountains/ lots of trees
5. charm/quaint feel
Please help!!! Please share your recommendations!

Yes, being close to a great college is very important for us when our children graduate from high school. I will check out the link, thanks!

Colorado Springs, hands down.
1. Lots of homes in the $200-250K range in Zip 80920 (Briargate). Use realtor.com with that zip code to see them. Pools are not a good bet here as we're cool most of the year. YMCA's, large health clubs and some schools have pools, as well as some city parks/rec centers.
2. Colorado Springs has low crime, and the farther to the north side of town you get, the less it gets. See the weekly crime map at:
- City of Colorado Springs - Topic Pages
3. FOUR major hospitals here; two new ones in the last two years. One new one in Briargate (Memorial North); the other is 3 miles down Powers Blvd (Penrose-St Francis). Go the COLO SPGS forum index and look under the Medical category for threads.
4. Good views from all over town.
5. Charm is not a big strong point in these newer subdiv's up here on the north end. For that I suggest the Old North End of town, up near Colorado College.
This city has everything you're looking for. Check it out.

Here is my 2 cents
You need to visit. To be honest there is really no city in Colorado that meets your "feel with trees and greenery" at least to Minnesota standards as this is a dry climate.
That being said if you want a smaller city but still be by hospitals Pueblo has two major regional medical centers, St Mary Corwin and Parkview medical center, both with level 2 trauma centers as well as the Colorado State Hospital with a brand new forensic unit. I, also, here that a major company wants to build a medical annex in south Pueblo by St Mary Corwin, possibly something to do with research, but I have not heard much to confirm it.
Colorado State University is in Pueblo and is the states fastest growing university and Pueblo has Pueblo Community College.

Yes indeed. A private, and pricey one at that, but wow, what a place. We also have UCCS. Not to mention the USAF Academy.
