Pueblo sounds fine, but what about the crime rate I've been hearing about...what types of crimes? Murders? Or is it more so stupid people doing stupid activities in the dumpy part of town?

Read the stats right here on City-Data (about half-way down the page). Draw your own conclusion.

Also, notice how health care is one of Pueblo's largest industries and growing!
Also, notice that Pueblo is not anywhere near the top 100 worse cities for crime and in fact the Springs has seen a increase this year.
And yes it is stupid people doing things in the bad part of town, just like most cities.

Mike is right Minn Mom. That part of Colorado Springs is my favorite part, hands down. Beautiful college and some real nice old homes there too!

Note to Jazz; I see a LOT of registered sex offenders listed on that Pueblo crime stat chart there and I'll tell you I have cousins in Parole and Probation here in Pueblo or the State of Colorado in general and they closely monitor the "registered" ones and I'd think it's a good thing that so many are known and being monitored. If they violate, which may mean looking the wrong way, not returning right back home from work, missing appointments, self-admission, getting busted for alcohol, drugs, porn during a home-visit, they go back to the slammer.
Newsflash: criminals and sex-offenders are everywhere. I doubt they're heavily concentrated more in Pueblo than Colorado Springs or Denver.
Colorado in general has the toughest internet stings for Sexual preditors in perhaps the world.
In any case, people are encouraged to educate THEMSELVES to where these guys are located and use discretion. They unfortunately have rights too and the law is the law. If you don't like it, become a judges or a DA or a prosecuting attorney and change things.
If I saw one of these guys, I'd do more than my part to get them to justice if I saw them cross the line. But I'm NOT in law enforcement, so there's rights I don't have.
The murders and fights down here typically happen from gang activity and that's contained within themselves.
Robbery, not so much down here. Theft, moreso. Domestic disputes and drinking is pretty bad I guess, but hasn't changed much. I hear that Canon City has more of a Meth problem per capita that Pueblo, but I just don't know or see it much, but we know it needs to be dealt with.

Yeah man! That old north end area takes the cake with it canopy of tree lined streets and walking distance to the older main Penrose St Francis Hospital, walking distance to Colorado College and walking distance to quite a few amenities, there's even an old Safeway tucked in there a block off Nevada, near Jackson St. The area is flat and level with wide streets that are lightly traveled, easy for walking or cycling around town, and is barely a mile from a vibrant downtown area.

The bottom line is both cities are nice, I am sure you would like living in either city. One suggestion is to visit and apply for jobs at the hospitals in both cities and then go where you get the best offer!!!!

Pictures of Colorado Springs look nice with the mountains in the distance, and I like the pictures of Pueblo with parks and the beautiful walking path along the river. I guess that is what I mean by charm, just well-kept and friendly. Both cities look like they have a lot of crime...which is disappointing. It's too bad some people have to ruin it for everyone else. I know someone else was saying these people have rights, too, but as a mom, if anyone ever touched one of my children, they would no longer be viewed by me as a human being. It's too bad they can't just all go and live in a town by themselves and stop ruining nice cities. I'm from a really small town where there are no murders, I'm sure there are rapes and thefts, and I'd never feel safe walking by myself after dark, anywhere...but maybe we'll just have to get used to the city life. Stay in the "good" part of town, etc. Does anyone know if there are any kind of bans on certain breeds of dog in these areas? We are in love with Dobermans and are getting one as soon as we are settled, but someone else was saying something about pitbulls being banned, and unfortunately, dobies get thrown into the same category. I really don't want to start a dog debate, just wondering if anyone has an answer.
Another question for Colorado people: Can anyone shed some light on the bug factor in Colorado? I've heard that bugs aren't as bad as they are in MN, just wondering if this is true. Mosquitos? Anything nasty that commonly gets into your house? What other kinds of critters live in the yard? (I'm a little jumpy about bugs and snakes, which is why I'm asking. ) We were thinking of moving to FLorida and being done with cold altogether...that is until someone informed us of all the cockroaches and lizards getting into your house and living in the walls, no thanks. We turned our sights on Colorado!
