Default How about a 'Pueblo and Southern Plains' forum area?

I see lots of Pueblo postings here. How about a forum area for Pueblo and the Southern Plains? It would be a good match for the small communities on the plains that rely on Pueblo as the nearest moderate size town on the plains.

People in the middle have Colorado Springs and Denver. People up North have Ft. Collins or Cheyenne, WY.

Yeah but 90% of the Pueblo posts are from one person. He might get lonely talking to himself in a Pueblo forum.

Funny

I think it would make more sense to divide it up as:
Pueblo/COS
Denver Metro
Boulder/Ft. Collins
Western Colorado

I think Colorado Springs and Denver are closer linked than Colorado Springs and Pueblo. There seems to be large commuting between Colorado Springs and Denver - they even stood up a bus service just for work commuters. People from Colorado Springs rarely go to Pueblo as everything they need is here...and if not it is in Denver. Ft. Collins is a plains town like Pueblo. Colorado Springs is up against the front range like Boulder.

To be honest when I first came on here I was all about Pueblo getting a room, as I thought that was some kind of status thing, now not so much. I have no issue being in the main room and starting threads there and like I have said my only goal is to get the word out about Pueblo as I have found when I do people and companies actually consider moving here, we are in my opinion the states best kept secret.

That being said I do think Colorado Springs has more in common with Pueblo then Denver. First off the Denver metro area is 2.5 million people so the Springs would just be lost as another big suburb. Second, Colorado Springs and Pueblo share most of their media, I even subscribe to the Gazette on Sundays. Finally, on paper, the two cities already are joined as Pueblo has annexed the lariat around Pueblo Springs, so its only a matter of time before its one big city, like it or not, from Pueblo to Monument. That will make us 1 region for sure. BTW as a side note soon I will be able to say I am going to "The Springs" and never leave Pueblo!

As far as shopping Puebloans shop in Denver all the time for things we do not have due to our size, does that make us part of Denver? No that's just the reality of living in a smaller city, as we grow and those things move here you will see less people from Pueblo going to Denver to shop.

One last thing, sure both cities have unique economies but if you look at them its a nice transition from industrial on the south end of Pueblo to military and proposed tech parks on the north end to the military on the south end of the Springs to high tech on the north end helping this area to attract a wide range of people.

Separately both cities will never compare to the Denver Metro area but combined I believe they will, sooner then most people would think too.

You guys don't know how lucky you are. That is why I am moving to Colorado this summer. I live in the Rio Grande Valley (McAllen pop. 127, 245) Brownsville is 80 miles away, but they have what we have. If I want to go to a big city I have to travel 246 miles to San Antonio. Houston is 358 miles away. If I want to go to a town roughly the size of Colorado Springs, I would have to travel to Corpus (pop. 285, 507) 157 miles (a 2 1/2 hour drive). that's the closest. What we do have in McAllen is what I hope happens to Pueblo/Colorado Springs/ Canon City in the future. We have a town 5 miles west of us (Mission pop. 65, 310) 5 miles east of us (Pharr pop. 63, 681) and one 10 miles north of us (Edinburg pop. 68, 724) to create somewhat of a metroplex. But as good as that is, a BIG town is still far aways off. I would have to travel 518 miles just to see a Dallas Cowboys game. But to live in Pueblo, bigger city is just 43 miles! To drive to Denver would be 114 miles! I could do that in my sleep. I hope pueblo, Colorado springs and canon city close that 40 mile gap with more population, like McAllen has, or if not, just become one big city, whatever.

No it's not! You've got Reynosa right there! It's got to be about 900,000+! Huge city! Nice place! It's like Ciudad Juarez, without all the glitter.

I would like our own forum just for the sake of organization and being out of everybody's hair. But it's up to the admin and they already told us... it's all about the numbers.

Maybe if j96g would move here already!

In fact on paper the gap between Pueblo and Colorado Springs has been closed when we annexed the first part of the Pueblo Springs development. As soon as the second part is annexed this summer then the development will start and the new tech park!

You are right, but I wasn't counting it, because it's in Mexico and I've seen it. Not impressed. It's just different.

I checked all the land South of Fountain near I-25 but still in El Paso County on the El Paso County GIS and did not find anything owned by Pueblo Springs development?

...just found this thread on the Pueblo Chieftan forum - good discussion on the development: http://forums.pueblochieftain.com/showthread.php?t=1887

...ok just did a search and found this article: KOAA.com - Pueblo Springs Ranch development moves forward
The annexed land does not cross into El Paso County.
