It's quite a hike to either downtown Denver or Colorado Springs. Springs has the additional barrier of the Palmer Divide which can get some nasty weather in the winter. The weather being the wild card it is, I wouldn't want to have a long-ish commute that turns into a hellish commute when there's 3" of snow on the ground.

I have to agree about the Palmer Divide. My spouse did that commute on and off for a couple of years. It's not bad when the weather is good, but once winter sets in, it's awful. If you work in Colorado Springs everyday, you should probably live in Colorado Springs. A big surprise for us was that some of the prime Castle Rock neighborhoods are 10-15 minutes off the highway, which is a hefty chunk of the daily commute to both Denver and Colorado Springs. We moved to a Centennial neighborhood at the southern end of the DTC, and it hardly added any time at all to my husband's commute on the rare occasion that he needs to see clients in the northern part of CoS.
