I went out to dig out our mail box and the county snow plow was stuck in front of the house. A neighbor and I helped dig him out. My wife saw a Subaru stuck out back so I went to investigate. This is what I saw. Looking the opposite direction, I saw a furniture delivery truck stuck in a drift. So I helped them dig that out. All the other cars are still there and the visibility went down to about 50 feet.

That looks rough Josseppie, I'm glad you got around safely.
I was crazy enough to attempt the drive to Breckenridge from Colorado Springs. The drive actually wasn't that bad. Snow packed roads, but manageable. It was dry from Wilkerson Pass to Fairplay. On the way home, everything had melted except for Woodland Park where it was still snowing.

Those folks violated the first rule of driving on snow--with or without 4WD: You can only drive in snow about up to the running ground clearance of your vehicle. Any deeper than that and you will high-center and get stuck. Since running ground clearance on most AWD's and 4WD's is around 7 1/2"-10", snow deeper than that (other than short drifts that one can take a run at and "bust" through) are going to stick most vehicles. Of course, that doesn't stop people from trying it--with predictable results. And, as the old saying goes, "Being a little bit stuck is like being a little bit pregnant."

Its almost time for snow again! Any predictions on when the front range will get the first snow storm?
I think it will be early this year. Around the middle of October for Pueblo....

Looked like snow on the ground near Cripple Creek today, but I'm 99% sure it was from a large hail storm that passed by earlier.
I'm going with Octobrer 25th. Always snows right before Halloween it seems.

HH.....If the past 3 winters are any indication, I bet you'll be pretty darn close ( within 10 days ) to your Grand Junction prediction.

We'll have to watch how the weather patterns set up. According to an article written by one of the local news stations a couple weeks ago, El Nino has taken over the Pacific weather patterns. In past years with this weather pattern, the front range has been known to have major October snowstorms/blizzards.
