I think Pueblo has a more historic looking downtown but it doesn't seem to have much there. The Springs does have better back drop to me though. But you can't vote on something when it hasn't been built yet so all the great stuff that Josseppie talks about I can't vote on. Maybe we can do a poll on which one will have the best downtown in the future.

Demographics of downtown Pueblo
  • Over 1,000 businesses in central business district with 13,000+ employees.
  • These businesses generated over $1.5 billion in sales and revenue in 2006.
  • Over 15,000 vehicles per day on Santa Fe Avenue & 52,000 vehicles on I-25.
And Pueblo is only 100,000 people. Imagine what it will be like when we are 350,000 people.

Probably b/c unless they grow smart (i.e. reject sprawl development) it will be. Case in point Denver and CO Springs. When you think about, though they do have a chance to do something nice there since growth has been retarded over the last 50 years. The city did avoid the over building car centric hell that Denver and CO Springs fell into. That is good news.

I don't understand you Josseppie. Why would wish that kind of growth on any city? Sounds like you need to move somewhere that is already over grown instead doing this to a pretty city. I hope to hear from you in future about all the crime and traffic that have grown out of control because you wanted that many people to live there. I wish we had more people on here from Pueblo who would voice there opinion on this subject because it seems like you live in a fantasy world sometimes with all this wild ideas you have.

Default I want downtown Pueblo to be walkable!

That I agree with. I would like to see downtown Pueblo be walkable and I want us to keep the historic buildings. If we do that then I think we can have a great downtown at 350,000 people. I think Pueblo is on the right track with the Riverwalk area as that is a built in walkable neighborhood that will run for a few miles to the baseball stadium and lake. Then we have a area called the grove that will be a great local neighborhood that is being anchored by this development. They plan on building a pedestrian tunnel under the railroad tracks that will give this development along with the Grove easy access to walk to the Riverwalk.

Pueblo Ice House

Pueblo Ice House is the newest and largest mixed-use landmark next to the Pueblo H.A.R.P. riverwalk, located at 303 South Santa Fe Avenue. This historic warehouse property consists of a 5.7 acre site and a four and five story historic brick and stone warehouse building. The development includes 45 to 60 high-end residential lofts with secure underground parking, overlooking the riverwalk and mountains.

The link: Pueblo Ice House

Pueblo is currently refurbishing a trolley car and once completed we will have one line that runs from the train depot to down by the Riverwalk. I know that is just a first step but a step in the right direction.

I am not saying it wont take a while for this vision of Pueblo to become a reality, what I am saying is we have a vision. All I see from Colorado Springs is one study after another and nothing really gets done. For the most part we have had the same vision, with some modifications, since it was developed in the mid 1990's and you can now see the progress in many ways. In fact, in a Denver Post article about the Riverwalk they discussed how Pueblo is becoming more dense and they could see Pueblo being a nice city of 500,000 people. Keep in mind the city of Denver is only 560,000 people.

That is a good question. I want growth in Pueblo because I think we are a great small city and if we grow right we could be a great medium size city. I don't want Pueblo to be the size of the Denver metro area but I would like to see the city somewhere between 250,000 and 500,000 people. Not overnight either but long term growth plan. That would give us great amentias for our downtown such as a baseball team, art and theater district, restaurants etc. Things that need population to thrive.

Pueblo founders wanted Pueblo to be a large regional city so my wanting this for Pueblo is not new. I just happen to be a much louder "cheerleader" for Pueblo then most people are!

Why can't you accept your own town for what it is--a small city that actually has a chance to manage its destiny WITHOUT a ton of growth that destroys the character of the place? To think that having a decent community means growing into another version of Colorado Springs or Denver is myopic, to say the least.

I have a LONG history in Colorado. When I was a kid, Colorado Springs was a city about the size that Pueblo is today. The Springs was a far nicer place then than it is now. Denver was a far nicer city when it was less than half its present size. No, they didn't major league baseball and some other "big-city" amenities, but they--on whole--were far more friendly, wholesome communities then than compared to now.

I've said it before, Joseppie, if you so wish to live in some biga** city someplace, for God's sake, go move to one. Pueblo is plenty big enough just the way it is.
