Yet the development projects Pueblo seems to be supporting are the same visionless mentally-retarded sprawl model that is turning virtually every city in the Western and Southern US into increasingly expensive, unsustainable, and--pretty soon--probably unlivable metropolitan dinosaurs.

So, nice small city or another Front Range hell-hole--that's Pueblo's choice. Why do I have this feeling that Pueblo won't choose wisely?
Because you are looking at the Colorado Springs model and think we will follow that.

As "suburban nation" says, cities will grow so the best thing to do is not fight it but to manage it properly. Will Pueblo be perfect, no, but I think we will do a much better job then the Springs or Denver did simply because we can learn from their mistakes.

Perhaps in the end it was good we grew last.

I choose Colorado Springs. I've only been to Pueblo one time, and that was a while back so I don't really remember it. I have seen pictures of Pueblo though and I'd still have to give the nod to CS. Both cities definetly have room to improve though.

That I can agree with......

The question is what city do you think is will to take the time and spend the money to improve itself? Coloroado Springs or Pueblo?

I think in time both cities will make improvements to their downtown areas. Although I think it will be harder for Colorado Springs because I think the city is having money problems right now. Neither city will ever be like Denver, they basically have the big city of Colorado on lock.

That is a interesting comment. I want to get "Sheldon" on it and analyze it.

You say that Pueblo and Colorado Springs will never be like Denver because they have the "big city" lock in the state. What do you mean by that?

A) Do you mean city versus city? Because if you do the city of Denver is only 560,000 people and will not grow much past 600,000 if they are lucky to get that big. If you do then I disagree with you because both Pueblo and Colorado Springs will most likely pass the city of Denver some day.

B) Do you mean the entire metro area? If you do then I would say yes but so what? The Denver metro area is noting more then a collection of large cities that are around Denver. Of course alone Pueblo and Colorado Springs can never be that but combined we could as that would just be another collection of large cities around Pueblo and Colorado Springs. Will that happen soon, no, but I think you will see that develop this century.

Since this is a thread about downtown, I don't see Colorado Springs with a downtown as Big as Denver's as people there don't seem to want one but overtime I do see Pueblo's downtown just as big as people down here seem to want that.

Yeah, I meant that they'll never pass Denver in several ways. In metro population I don't see it happening as Denver has over 2,500,000 people while Colorado Springs only has 610,000 and Pueble only has around 150,000. Even if you combined COS and Pueblo you'd only have 760,000 people so Denver would still have way more people. They will never have the skyline Denver has. Denver has a very nice skyline with several big buildings, Colorado Springs and Pueblo have very small skylines. I don't know what Pueblo's tallest building is, but Colorado Springs's tallest is only about 250 feet or so. I don't think you will ever see pro sports in Colorado Springs or Pueblo. Denver has all four major sports. I've been to Coors Field and Pepsi center and I think both are very nice. I mean don't get me wrong I like Colorado Springs, but I don't see it ever growing to the point where its got the population or skyline Denver has.

I have to disagree with you, currently we are about 760,000 people but if you add Bannen Lewis ranch and Pueblo Springs ranch alone that will add 500,000 people making the area over 1 million people. Pueblo has more developments and I am sure the Springs does as well. Perhaps we will never be bigger then them but we will be a major area and considered Colorado's second major metro area.

Sports teams - It will be a long time before we are even considered for pro teams but I don't look to that as a definition for a major city. In fact the United States is unique with pro team and only since the 20th century so going by that definition there have only been a few major cities in the history of the world.

The better question is do both cities offer great sports teams and the answer is yes! Colorado Springs and Pueblo have great college football teams and the Springs has minor league teams and I can see Pueblo getting them as well. In fact Pueblo has a great stadium that is part of the expansion plans for the Riverwalk that I think will give LODo a run for its money once it is completed. First, it could be home to a minor league baseball team then as Pueblo grows someday in the future I could see it being up graded and professional baseball team move in.

Finally don't forget about the PBR being headquartered in Pueblo with the Wild West Fest and the team competition, both are broadcast all over the world. That is something that Denver can not say they have.

In terms of downtown's, I just don't think the Springs can and wants one like Denver. Firs its located to close to the mountains so it can never be in the geographic center of the city, that makes it harder. Second people there just don't want one, and that's ok you have many large cities with smaller downtown's. Pueblo on the other hand is laid out like Denver and we seem to want a big downtown, I think the question is not if we will have a big downtown but when? Will it be the next 10 years, no. Will it be in 20, maybe. Keep in mind it took only about 10 years for all of the current sky scrapers in Denver to be built in the late 70's and early 80's.

Sooooo Josseppie.......what you are saying is..: Denver isn't JUST the downtown area BUT....many little cities/towns around it? Right? Such as...Centennial, Berkeley,Arvada,Westminster,Lakewood, etc. Right?
Well then....Pueblo would ALSO be reaching ALL of the areas around it too, such as,......Colorado Springs, Canon City, Trinidad, La Junta, Alamosa, Walsburg, Peyton, Ellicott,...etc. Right?
Where are the boundaries? 10 miles, 20, 30, 40, 50?
Do they connect by East and West? North and South?
AND,......who exactly decides this????
I will HAVE to pick Colorado Springs as the best Downtown. I really want to pick Pueblo because it is closer to my area and heart but,.....CS is much more diverse and WAAAAYYYY more beautiful!!!!!
All one has to do is,...look at the scenery and the way to get to every part of Colrado...hands down...it's CS!!
Sorry Joss.....Pueblo will never be CS OR DENVER.....Thank Gosh!!! I think that is why you love it so much!! Right?
