Pueblo West is nothing but a suburb, Pueblo and Colorado Springs are both principal cities.

No worries. I admit I am a dreamer but if cities don't have residents who dream and try to make those dreams a reality they just stay the same and I do not want that fate for downtown Pueblo.

Sports teams - It will be a long time before we are even considered for pro teams but I don't look to that as a definition for a major city. In fact the United States is unique with pro team and only since the 20th century so going by that definition there have only been a few major cities in the history of the world.
The better question is do both cities offer great sports teams and the answer is yes! Colorado Springs and Pueblo have great college football teams and the Springs has minor league teams and I can see Pueblo getting them as well. In fact Pueblo has a great stadium that is part of the expansion plans for the Riverwalk that I think will give LODo a run for its money once it is completed. First, it could be home to a minor league baseball team then as Pueblo grows someday in the future I could see it being up graded and professional baseball team move in.
Finally don't forget about the PBR being headquartered in Pueblo with the Wild West Fest and the team competition, both are broadcast all over the world. That is something that Denver can not say they have.
In terms of downtown's, I just don't think the Springs can and wants one like Denver. Firs its located to close to the mountains so it can never be in the geographic center of the city, that makes it harder. Second people there just don't want one, and that's ok you have many large cities with smaller downtown's. Pueblo on the other hand is laid out like Denver and we seem to want a big downtown, I think the question is not if we will have a big downtown but when? Will it be the next 10 years, no. Will it be in 20, maybe. Keep in mind it took only about 10 years for all of the current sky scrapers in Denver to be built in the late 70's and early 80's.

The Colorado Springs metro area as far as I know is already Colorado's second major metro area, then it would be a toss up between Pueblo, Fort Collins, and Boulder for third. Also most major cities in the United States do have sports teams. Yeah theres a few cities that don't, but the overwhelming majority do. And I agree with you there is some sports teams to watch in Colorado Springs like the Sky Sox and Air Force Academy teams, but personally I'd rather watch a pro sports game than a college or minor league team. Lastly yes I agree with you, Colorado Springs doesn't seem to want a major downtown area. Don't get me wrong the Springs is a big city, but it isn't exactly a household team. I go on the city vs city forum alot and out of all cities of more than 300,000 it is one of the least mentioned cities.

I would argue that Pueblo is Colorado's second most important metro area simply because of location and infrastructure. People from southern Colorado tend to shop is Pueblo simply because it is easier to get to why Pueblo county is a sales tax net gainer. That is, also, why downtown Pueblo is the leading contender for the next federal court even though the Springs is bigger. Finally that is why you see bigger projects planned for Pueblo then you do for the Springs.
The bottom line is if you take out all the military basses and employers there because of them not much would be left, that is why the Springs is known mainly as a military city.
I like pro teams better as well, in fact I have season tickets for the Broncos. I just don't see that as a requirement for a "major" city. That is not to say I would not be happy if Pueblo had a team or two.
One of the reasons the Springs is not mentioned more is because of their location, in between Pueblo and Denver. I think that will only get worse as Pueblo grows and has a large downtown. Your cites best asset, next to Pikes Peak, is also your worse asset as it put you in the middle of two major cites. I think that hurts your downtown as well.
Fianlly since this is a downtown thread can you give me 5 amentias that downtown Colorado Springs has that downtown Pueblo does not?
