I haven't been to Rangely in years, but when I lived in Grand Junction I drove up there. It feels extremely isolated. I thought it was pretty ugly. Between GJ and Rangely you have to climb (or descend -- depends on which direction you're going) Douglas Pass, which is pretty awesome. But Rangely seems to sit up on a high plain that is pretty drab scenery. There was some petroleum exploitation up that way and I imagine it has continued and probably grown. I can't imagine that Rangely itself has grown much. I'm totally guessing, but I think rental options there will be quite limited and likely not very nice. If being out in the middle of nowhere floats your boat, then Rangely is for you!
