Hi all,

Planning a move to Durango after I take the Colorado bar in July.

I've had a tough time turning up much info on the legal community.

Would anyone happen to have any info RE the legal job market, or suggestions on where to look?

Many thanks in advance.

There are some really nice legal community workers in Durango. The court house knows everyone and everybody in the legal community and they have a tight friendship with each other so I would ask there. The judges, attorneys, DA and such all know each other and are friends with each other. Yeah I know, it seems strange for DAs and defense attorneys being friends but they all are. So get to know the court house, that will get you in. Oh, I have heard the rumor mill saying that Durango may be the location for a higher court for higher cases (ie I guess appeals and such) that are sent to Denver. That would be great since it would serve the western slope.

Good to know, thanks. I've kept an eye out for jobs at the court house but so far I haven't seen much posted. I'm interested in getting into estate planning or land use, on the public side of things.

Andrew, keep looking in the Durango Herald Newspaper online. I used to see some openings in the trusts and estate planning law office jobs in the past and I am sure there will be some open up soon. Regardless getting to know the court house people will springboard you to wherever you need to go. They know everything. Good luck!

I thought of another question in this area.

Does anyone have any idea where the closest law library is?

Andrew, I asked a friend of mine who was in paralegal work and she told me to check the John F Reed Library at Fort Lewis College at:

Fort Lewis College
1000 Rim Drive
Durango, Colorado
81301-3999
Phone: (970) 247 - 7010

She thinks they would know. A good number of Fort Lewis students go on to law school and she thinks Reed Library may have law resources or would know where you would go. HTH.
