Default The 10th anniversary of Columbine

I dont live in Colorado but I will always remember that terrible morning. I cant believe its been 10 years. I was 7 years old when it happened and I've been afraid of school ever since.

I was just wondering is anything going to happen, like tributes, or anything in colorado on Monday or what? Or have you just tried to move on and forget about it since?

I'm not trying to be mean with this thread...i'm just thinking about that day and I figured I would ask.

Thanks

I don't know.
There is already a memorial.
I well remember that day in April, both my kids were in school (in Colorado, but not at Columbine.)
My heart goes out to everyone affected by that horrific event.

When I saw this last night, I thought, "I'm not ready to talk about Columbine". And I'm still not. But CHS will be closed tomorrow.

I don't think Columbine has changed the nation much. We've had a rash of gun violence in the last couple months. I know when we were still in NY it created a zero tolerance for bullying. I don't even think Colorado has adopted a similar policy. Not to start a debate on gun control, but in NY it was rather difficult to get a hand gun, you need to go through a lengthy process and be vouched for. In Colorado you can back your car up to a gun shop, and fill up your trunk. Carrying concealed requires a permit, but in the "view of home defense" you can have all the guns you want. It does add a twist to road rage here, as folks still rage but quickly back down in comparison to NY.
We visited the memorial, and CHS is tucked into an area near the large park, and it's easy to drive by it and not even realize it's CHS. Oh they created a respect life license plate for $50.

I'm very sorry. I didnt mean this thread like that.

I'm from CT, just outside NY and I'm not ready to talk about 9/11 yet either.

No need to apologize. I couldn't even look at the thread last night. I looked at it this morning. There were several articles in today's paper, which I just skimmed. I still have a hard time with it. My daughter was in high school in Louisville at the time, and then about 6 months later, her gymnastics team had a meet down there. It was creepy.

you are not the only one that is "not ready to talk about it" Just to give a little hint of my age, I was a Senior in High school that day. A year or so earlier the orchestra at the high school I attended at the time was in Grand Junction for a big event with the orchestra from Columbine, I had an opportunity to meet many people from there, as well as becoming friends with a couple. That day scared the utter crap out of me. At 10:00 they locked down our school, no one was allowed to enter, or leave. No information was released other than news of gunmen entering a school. We were told to go to our next class and stay there. Teachers locked the doors to the class rooms and we had a t.v. which was on the news channels so we could attempt to figure out what was happening. It was hard to go to school for the rest of the year. Friends of mine lost friends. not a good memory at all. Guess I could get a few words out anyway, and a few tears I did not know would come.
