Default Need Opinions about Pueblo

I have a friend who might be transferred to Pueblo from Eugene, OR and she is not hearing many good things about Pueblo and might beg to remain in Eugene.

It is a small town, but how far away is a larger city?
Is Pueblo run down, desolate, with a dead downtown?
What are the good and bad aspects of Pueblo?
Would a professional 30 something enjoy single life in Pueblo?
Is there an art scene, good coffee shops with hipsters?

Thanks everyone!

I was born and raised in Colorado. Pueblo is nice, Colorado Springs which is like 25-30 minutes away has a better night life, its what u make of it. Pueblo is only an hour from denver, the cost of living is a lot cheaper in pueblo and colorado springs. than denver.

Oh yeah , we don't do coffee shops, its all about the beer and little restraunt joints, The state fair is held each year there, if oyu liek outboddr things than anywhere in colraod you can have fun.

We have a couple of coffee shops and a neat little historic downtown with a bit of character.

I'd say it takes more like 45 minutes to drive to Colorado Springs from Pueblo and about 2 hours to get to Denver.

Check out our Pueblo photo tours and that link that was suggested to you if you have the patience to sort through it.

Wow, it's sure quiet in here. Usually Pueblo is well represented. My home computer is busted, so I can't elaborate just yet.

Let's pray for my hard drive. It's going under the knife tonight.

East Pueblo is bad. South Pueblo isn't great either.

Pueblo West, a suburb, is okay though.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, I think of Pueblo as more of a place for a family that wants to be away from a typical larger city. Don't think I'd want to be single there - I'd probably be travelling to the Springs or Denver for a better chance to find dates - of course some people like more quiet life or don't mind driving a bit to hang out/date.

If your friend is supposed to move to Pueblo for work and don't like what they see, they could always split the difference and live at the Northern part of Pueblo or the Southern edge of Colorado Springs to have a larger city a bit closer by.

That is about right, as much as I love Pueblo we are only 150,000 people. Thus, there is more things to do here then in a town but not as many as in a big city....

Now if/when the big developments start that will change everything in the next decade and Pueblo will be one of the large cities.

Thanks for the replies everyone. My friend is concerned about the industrial backdrop of the city and the dryer weather. How close are mountains to the city? Are there forests and lakes and rivers nearby?
Would this city be a shock for somebody coming from the Pacific Northwest?

Ummm, yes - to say the least. Pueblo Reservoir is nearby, but Pueblo is VERY barren, arid and desert-like, especially compared to a place with dense forests like the Pacific NW.
