How far for snow?
Okay, I'll make this short. The temperature right now in Pueblo is 88°F, Cañon City 83°, Monarch Pass 48°F.
My question is, if I'm in Cañon City on May 16th, would I HAVE TO drive an hour and a half to experience that temperature change and still see snow, or is there somewhere closer i could drive to? what would be the temp change BE from cañon city to royal gorge bridge?

I live in Canon. It's 7 miles to the Gorge. Not too much change in the temp (windy up on the bridge).
I was in Cripple Creek on Sunday (1 1/2 hour away) and it got cold.
Take and hour and a half to Hoosier Pass ( right out of South Park, Alma) should still have some snow. Also over the pass into Breckenridge, still some snow on the slopes.
I'm not sure about the Monarch Pass area out of Salida.
Breckenridge is 100 miles (easy drive) from the east part of Canon City.JFI. My favorite!!

There's snow up on the top of Monarch, oh yea! Now if you want to see a lot of snow, drive down to the San Luis Valley and hit U.S. 160 and go west to Wolf Creek pass. Though the temps have warmed up some, the snowmelt sure hasn't. Six weeks ago the ski base up there was sitting with a 110 inch depth.
Nine feet of snow? Yikes!!

You might try Pikes Peak. It would take about 1:15 to get to the toll booth and then it's 19 miles to the top. It's a great drive, with lots to look at. At 14,110 feet, chances are you'll see snow.

Thanks for the input, i take off to my trip Friday 12 am. After all the suggestions, Pikes Peak is the closest with 72 miles, but google has it to take 2 hours and 19 minutes.
Whereas, Monarch Pass is 81 miles, but 1 hour and 35 minutes. Is that right? Does it take longer to Pikes Peak? Which trip would be worth it, it's my one chance to wow my brother. What route would I take, IF i choose Pike's Peak? (I won't have 4-wheel drive)

I would Pick Pikes peak. You can either drive up, easy drive, or take the cog railway. In the Springs sub forum they have a thread on it. Plus on the top it is set up for visitors with a viewing area and store with a resturant....

I also recommend Pikes Peak! It's the most visited mountain in North America, you definitely will not forget it!

Thanks, I guess it's Pike's Peak! I'll let you know how it turns out, and my brothers' reaction
