I love colorado but...
I miss trader joe's.
I've tried and tried but I can't get over it. it's been more than two years and I still can't leave it behind.
we just got back from a trip to chicago and couldn't be there without going to TJs. oooohhh all the goodies!!! managed to fill the car up with $200 worth of stuff, enough to last til the next trip.
*sigh* I really wish we had one here. everything is still dirt cheap, but $2 chuck is now $3 chuck. since we don't really drink, no problem.
(I did manage to avoid Ikea, however. I didn't want family to think I was neglecting them. )
I would encourage all of us TJ fans to write them (again) and suggest they come to our lovely state.
the one i visited was the one not too far from the I-80. they say they get a lot of CO folks stopping there . apparently we're all filling up before heading out.

I just don't get the obsession with that store. I go there sometimes and they have some stuff I like but I wouldn't pine over it if I lived far from one.

I can understand missing some of the good things about California but I think it would be easy to get over the things you miss with the things you gained by leaving? You did move out of this ses pool and into a state with a brighter future than just becomming northeren Mexico? Trader Joes does have some fun stuff but there has to some place up in Boulder that has a similar feel and goods? Just think of the reasons you left next time you think of trader Joes and ask yourself if it is worth the cost of living in Cal.

Since you can only focus on one thing at a time, keep your thoughts focused on the many ways that your life is better in Colorado, then you will have no time to lament your losses. It's up to you!

That 'obsession' with Trader Joe's only seems to develop once we no longer have access to it. While I totally understand that a single grocery store is a fairly insignificant Qol factor, I also know what it feels like to really miss it and pine for your favorite TJ staples.
We sometimes drive to Santa Fes, mostly because we love going down there, but also bevause they have TJ's and it gives us a chance to stock up on some things.
When we were down there in April, I told the cashier that i figured the reason there are no TJ's in Colorado is becaus our Liquor laws won;t allow them to sell wine, she said that was not the case and that it was actually a matter of distribution channels. Apparently the distribution center they have for Nevada and Arizona can serve New Mexico as well, but once you get up to CO, it's just too far to make it feasible. So if they ever build a distribution center out here, we will likely get a whole bunch of TJ's at that point, but until that happens, it's no Mint Chocolate JoJo's for us!

Trader Joes is by no means a California company. Sure, it started there, but so did McDonalds, Apple and Disney. Do you feel Californicated every time you watch a Pixar film or use a Mac? If you look at their website Welcome to Trader Joe's - Your Neighborhood Grocery Store - Locations you can see that they're all over the Eastern and Pacific Time Zones these days.
That said, I'd like to give a little warning for the OP, as if he had not noticed... Beware of mentioning TJ's in the CO forum, as many folks seem to take it as some sort of personal insult and will often presume that it means that you're some sort of California urbanite who's moved here with the sole intention of polluting Alpine lakes and building a garagntuan mansion on top of a mountain.

For the sake of clarity....I love Trader Joes, and I'd shop there on a regular basis if a TJs was located in Grand Junction. However, I am not whining the absensce of TJs but rather I'm making do just fine with the Colorado based.... Vitamin Cottage. BTW, Vitamin Cottage has better pricing that TJs on just about every item....I like that part, but TJs has a nicer shopping environment.

Lisa, I think you are going to have try harder to get over it at least for now. Sorry.
I called their corporate HQ last September in response to a thread on this forum. Here's the link: http://www.city-data.com/forum/denve...ng-denver.html
I spoke to someone who told me that they were well aware that Colorado residents want Trader Joe's. Their website gets requests daily. The big issue is the logistics from their distribution points. She told me that the mountainous areas make it difficult to ship here. I asked about the store in Santa Fe and was told that they can ship there easily from the southern California warehouse.
She said that they are aware of the demand, they are working on it, but not to expect a store in the near future. That was 9 months ago and with the economy the way it is, I doubt things have changed since. But I suppose you won't know unless you contact them.
