Default Travelling to South Fork

Later this month a friend and I plan on driving to South Fork. We will be coming in on Highway 160 through Alamosa, Monte Vista, etc. Will visit relatives in South Fork.

I want to take a two-day mini trip up through the mountains, through Creede, Lake City, Montrose, and back down thorugh Ouray, Silverton, Durango, Pagosa Springs, and back to South Fork.

Any suggestions on things we must do? Advice on lodging, dining, things to see and do in and around South Fork, etc. I've made this trip before but it has been quite a few years.

Thanks for any advice.

Lake City has a lot of outfitters for a variety of activities. they rent jeeps, guided tours, etc. It's in a beautiful setting, if you spend some time there you'll enjoy it.

Pagosa Springs has a large hot springs located adjacent to the San Juan river (which is very cold water) and there are stairs going down into the river, some people like to go back and forth between the hot water and the frigid water.

In between Pagosa Springs and Wolf Creek pass there are some really nice hiking trails and waterfalls.
