Dream Home & Property In Colorado with Plenty of Land
In 5-6 years from now, I plan to settle in Colorado. By then I will have a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Working remotely has never been an issue for me so I do not need to be close to big technology companies.
I'm looking for a lot of land at an affordable price to build a home on. I'd still like to be within 30 miles of the suburbs. The house I will build on the land will be $250k-$450k and I plan on putting an RV and a research/engineering laboratory on the land behind the house. Perhaps some horses as well.
I'm wondering where I can find that in Colorado.

Colorado is not a place where you find "a lot of land at an affordable price" unless you go 50-75 miles east of Denver, in which case you are out in arid, dry, treeless, short-grass prairie, and even then, not sure how cheap it is.
As I read your posts in the Seattle forum, you are a first year college student, so as far as the rest of your post goes, I'll leave you with the advice to get your education first, then start looking around for the lifestyle, since dreams always change many times along the way.

You'll be arriving about 100 years too late for a "lot of land" at an "affordable price" in Colorado. The monied set "discovered" the natural beauty, resources, and recreational value of the desirable areas a long time ago.
The chances of you finding such a property ... undeveloped land within a close distance of the metropolitan areas is about as good as finding a building site in Clyde Hill or Medina for an "affordable" price.

We get a lot of posts on city-data asking about where one can get a big plot of land near Denver. Unfortunately, Denver, in particular, is unusual in this regard in that it's nearly impossible to find near Denver for any sane price; particularly not true in the mountains or anywhere close to them. Most eastern cities actually do have old farms and such on the fringes of more areas that can be acquired in much the fashion that the OP is looking for. In fact, eastern cities, even large ones, seem to have a surprising number of "large lot" properties at their fringes, and the premium placed on the gigantic lots isn't all that much. Not Denver. The suburban fringes of Denver, if anything, have SMALLER lots than the closer in housing does.
Colorado Springs, for its part, has more to offer those looking for larger lot properties than Denver. Probably not quite what the OP wants, but it's certainly a better bet than anywhere near Metro Denver. Rural Larimer county north of Fort Collins might be somewhere the OP can consider as well.

There is a small ( I'm s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g the size of the word ) village called Glade Park, located about 15 miles out of Grand Junction in western Colorado. You might be able to find some affordable land there. Grand Junction city has a population of roughly 50,000.

Granby has some affordable homesites and is about 2 hours from Denver in the Rocky Mountains between Winter Park and Grand Lake.

"homesites" does not equate to "a lot of land"
Grandby isn't exactly 30 odd miles from the suburbs of anywhere
How about covenants for large animals?
How do you see the Grandby area as being responsive to the OP? Am I missing something?

I understand there are some 35-acre lots that have opened up between Pueblo and Canon City. Guess it depends how large a city you want to be close to and how much it would cost to bring in the utilities to the property. Do not know the prices off hand but my cousin who lives there (I am moving back to CO next year) felt they were reasonable. Might check listings.
