Where to move?
Hello Coloradians!
You probably tired of people asking you for advices all the time which city is better, where is more jobs, good schools, etc.
But please be patient, think about it positive because we need you like an air; who else can help us! OK, here it comes. Currently I live in New York, Brooklyn, very busy and fast, too fast... for me at least. Public schools are very bad, no jobs, much more crimes latetly. So, I am planning to move to Colorado, but the problem is I don't know which city. My requirement is - good public schools
- family oriented
- kids and dogs friendly
- easy going and friendly people(not concervative)
I am not afraid of challange, hard worker, friendly, I just want better invirolment for my daughter just like any mother would want to. If you have any advice for me, please respond. Thank you in advance.

Why Colorado and not Arizona, or New Mexico, or Utah?
Name me one family/kid/dog unfriendly area in the state.

Take your pick of cities. They all fit the bill.

I'm curious as to what un-conservative trait you think would not be welcome in Colorado? Or is it just that you don't want to be around conservatives?

funnypug.....Your requirements are too open ended. They mean different things to different people. What do they mean to you? Please define what you mean. As currently stated, I'm inclined to agree with Jerry Bckr...Take your pick of cities. They all fit the bill.
- good public schools
- family oriented
- kids and dogs friendly
- easy going and friendly people(not concervative)

Thank you for all of your fine anwsers...but correct me if I am wrong I felt some unpleasent vibers in them. Its just probably none of you ever lived in New York...
2bindenver asking why colorado? reason #1 is climate, dry, fresh air, here is almost 100% of huminity all the time, so you get arthritis in your thirties already. Ohhh, if you could just have a pick in these schools... my daughter in third grade already get discriminated by mexican kids that her face is too white!!!
bideshi, I am sorry but I don't think you know how is it feel to be an immigrant, who comes in this country, work really hard, I mean really hard to blend in, and what you get... you've been ignore by conservative native American people. Excuse me, but they forgetting that the only differents between us is that their "boat" brought theirs parents earlier than us, thats all. Do you get picture now how is it to a New Yorker. And many, many more things, I can go on forever...
Please forgive me for my sad stories.

I am an ex New Yorker--lived and worked in NYC. I know NYC is a difficult place to live; it is also a great place to live. However, your perceptions of Colorado may be more fantasy than reality.
I can understand the urge to leave NYC and move to a different part of the country and improve your living. Many have done that; some are happy, some are not.
I would approach the issue first by doing more research and visiting the place you are considering. Arthritis is my problem too, and I know that a drier climate is much better for me. There are many areas in the Southwest that you can consider. However, you must realize that this part of the country in heavily influenced by the wonderful Hispanic culture. To be happy here, you must appreciate it, and find the Hispanic values that makes live enjoyable.
You say you are an immigrant and it is telling in your post. That is good and the West will welcome you as it does other immigrants. Yes, this is certainly not Brooklyn where the mixture of difference is so much evident and consequently conflicts can be more intense. Yea, I know Brooklyn, probably before you were born, when it was a much rougher place.
Colorado may not be as diverse as Brooklyn but Colorado is not the west of your imagination of all "conservative" white people, whatever conservative means in your mind. There are many different people that fall along the full spectrum of beliefs.
Again, come for a visit and see for yourself.

Boulder is very liberal.
Denver is very diverse.
Colorado Springs is more conservative.
All of the small towns in other parts of Colorado are on the conservative side, though not hugely.

Remember that liberal and conservative are just fabricated labels attempting to pigeon hole people. If we treat each person as an individual, all of that crap becomes meaningless. That being said, I tend to think of myself as socially liberal and fiscally conservative, yet most of my closest friends are social conservatives. That has always been the case for me, even when I've lived in places that most people would label as a liberal enclave. The in-your-face variety of either persuasion are the types that push my buttons. During 3 years of living in Colorado I have encountered no one like that. Coloradans seem to practice a live and let live attitude toward others. Whereas when I lived in Virginia Beach, I occassionally encountered people who wanted to get me into their church so I could be saved. I actually had one friend who started a Jesus converstion while we watched the World Series on TV, but it was strictly a one way conversation, so thank Jesus! it ended quickly. The Braves pitcher John Smoltz was far more compelling than his attempt to save me.
