Well first of all congrats on Finding the Evergreen area. I lived there for quite a while as a teenager and loved it .
What price range are you looking at?
There is a VERY nice large ranch between Evergreen and Conifer about 3 miles from the Safeway in Conifer with very easy access to the main road to Denver.
Its not on the open market but I know the owner.

Genesee or Kitteredge or Evergreen
Which of these areas is preferable? We will be working in Denver. We want a house in the country but know little about either area, both look beautiful but I would like some inside info.... The home in Kitteredge seems expensive for the area and the home in Genesee is expensive but seems to have comprable homes in the area. The taxes and homeowners dues in Genessee are higher too, my question is...is it worth the extra $$$$???? Help!

Genessee would be my recommendation from a professional stand point. It is close to I70 and as you said has many homes with comparable values.

The commute to Denver is a good start at differences. Both are snowy and you'll miss more days at work than your colleagues, but it'll be less hassle with the shorter Genessee commute in bad weather.
While Kittredge is "funky", Genessee is more like a suburb. Funky is fun and cute, but not as much fun if your neighbor plays with his ATV, or his guns, in the back yard. Less chance of that in Genessee...much higher environmental standards.
If you are looking for a "house in the country", why did you choose those two areas? Better places can be had in the SE metro area, with altitudes that look and act like the mountains(the Pinery), but not as high, and larger lots. Areas like n. of Golden, west of Arvada, or if you insist on the mountains, Lookout Mountain, Morrison, Indian Hills, have easier access, and a wider variety of homes. Water is a problem in many of them...check the water rules/rates before you buy.
Kittredge is different enough that if you see it & fall in love with it, the greater commute won't bother you. As the crow flies, it's not that far from Denver, but the route is very difficult. Closer to I-70 you'll find some of the communities east of Evergreen, in Clear Creek county. Mountain living with lots of trees.

Quick question about the Evergreen area - we are considering moving back (from Texas) Lived in Bailey for 2 years, but Bailey is too far out. In north central Evergreen there is a string of small lakes to the east of 74. Is that area Hiwan?

Not trying to threadjack the topic but since it is related and there are already a lot of threads for the same topic I thought I would post here. My family and I (two kids, wife, and my mother) are moving out to the Evergreen area next spring and are looking for something in the 400k-430k range. We are looking for a fairly big place and since there are five us we need 4 bedrooms. In general, is the price range and the size of place, we are looking for a reasoanable expectation in Evergreen?

There is not a lot of employment in Evergreen other than retail and restaurants. There is a small office park in Genessee that has a few businesses in it. Most people up there commute to Denver for work.
