I now can be a Colorado pioneer "natives", OH, BOY!
Yes, it is finally true. I, as a former New Yorker, can claim a license plate as a "Pioneer"
Colorado pioneer plates no longer require proof - The Denver Post
Why not???? Did not the New Yorkers pioneer food and culture into Colorado???? That can also apply to California, Texas etc. because we all pioneered something in this state.
Never mind that the only "Pioneer" I know, is the "pie I got near" with my cup of coffee.
I so proud to be a native pioneer.

Okay, when may we expect you to open your very own "Little Bistro on the Prairie" lunch truck with fake log cabin facade, raccoon tails hanging off the bumper and Yosemite Sam mud flaps. BTW, how do you look with an eye patch and a beard?

Actually, the original requirements for Pioneer plates were much more stringent than being just a native. The applicant had to prove that his or her family had been a resident of Colorado before 1900--that was a pretty exclusive "club." The applicant didn't even have to be a Colorado native--just able to prove the pre-1900 family residency in the state. Too bad they changed all that--the Pioneer plate used to mean something; now it's just another vanity-type plate with no real significance.

That is a great idea. It would be wonderful at the entry points to the state....and even a log cabin food stand at the airport---all food cooked on dry cow turds. The eye patch and the beard....yes....

I'm sure it's about the money....the State must figure enough poseurs will buy the pioneer plates to make it a cash windfall
This must make the legitimate 2nd & 3rd gen Coloradans with pioneer plates feel really good

Yeah, my mom is 5th generation, I'm 6th (although no longer in CO) and she's a bit peeved about it. It doesn't really matter to me, but they definitely lost their luster after I heard about this.

My mom was only 2nd generation (they moved down from Cody) but she is probably spinning in her grave right about now--her own mom was definitely pre-1900.

Glorifying an accident of birth as if it meant anything other than an accident of birth has always seemed like a silly, irrational, mildly arrogant notion to me. But we do live in a free country with the right to celebrate or glorify anything we want to, no matter how silly, irrational, or arrogant it might be...as long as it causes no harm to anyone else. The only harm in proclaiming an implied superiority by an accident of birth, is a possible stiff neck from putting all of that pride on display. So let it be.
Now even though this new law seems like an utter waste of taxpayer money, it does more accurrately reflect the real value to society of being born in a certain place.
Real value to society of being born in a certain place = ZERO!

I deal with the same I Was Here First mentality in Florida.
But ultimately it gets down to revenue, right?
Make your feelings known, y'all.
