Moving to Silt
My boyfriend, our 95 llb. dog, and I are moving to Silt in September (from New Orleans). Does anyone have info on best neighborhoods, dog grooming/vet services (I'm a groomer), and Methodist churches. Any info available would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a troll? Or are you really looking at "Slit"? I don't believe there is much demand for dog grooming there, let alone jobs.
Better look before you leap....don't base decisions off of what you find in these forums...that's only part of it, and you'll get plenty of differing opinions & perspectives.
No better way than to buy a ticket or make the roadtrip and spend a few weeks in the area...

Silt is just kinda a wide spot off the I-70 corridor between Glenwood Springs and Rifle, CO. Mostly a bedroom community, there's not what you'd call a lot of any business activity there. I think it would be hard to refer to the place as having "neighborhoods" ... esp with only about 700 residences there, and a fair number of them are mobile homes IIRC. I recall that the "town" was only about 15 blocks long and about 4 blocks wide, fairly concentrated development right off the highway.
I think you'll be heading to Glenwood Springs for your dog grooming business, that's the big community in the area and there is a methodist church there.
You may have a problem finding rental housing which will accept your large dog.
I'd suggest that you come out and "visit" the place and the surrounding areas. I assume that you already have employment lined up in the area, which is why you chose Silt as the destination to live in; if you don't have employment lined up, it may not be a good place to come to at this time. This was somewhat in the heart of bedroom "boomtowns" based upon extractive industries, and they are down right now.

Sunspirit is right. They are "way down" right now. There has been very sizable layoffs from last April regarding the energy companies, starting with Halliburton. There is not much going on for business in Silt. A possibility for housing might be Battlement Mesa, a few miles south of Silt.
Like Sunspirit suggests come out to Glenwood for a visit; there are ample mom and pop motel rooms in town . Stay for a few days-maybe a week. Other choices would be Newcastle, near Silt on Interstate 70. Also Carbondale, it's south of Glenwood. I like that area myself though it's been a while since I have been there. Good luck.

Silt?
crikey.
Not a whole lot happening there. Glenwood Springs and the roaring fork valley is where the action is.
Dog grooming is one of those personal services in the mountain towns much like massage therapists or personal trainers that are dime a dozen there. I'd look carefully to see if you think you can provide a service few others can provide right now.
