I see a handful of threads about taxes in colorado, and taxes in COS...

I see that most people say that teller county is more expensive than El Paso County... but I was wondering if someone could compare Douglas and Elbert counties to El Paso County....

I am referring to property taxes on a 200,000 home with 5-10 acres.

Here in NY we have 5 houses we pay taxes on -- and the taxes are killing us!!
house value - taxes
$20,000 ----- $1200/year
$26,000 ----- $1500/year
$45,000 ----- $2000/year
$75,000 ----- $2200/year
$40,000 ----- $2500/year (assessed at 95K last year before the house fire so we still pay the taxes on the 95K)

I know colorado is MUCH cheaper than this... but still I was wondering if someone could compare these counties for me.

Could someone also please explain to me how it is different in each county depending on the 'district' you are in???

In NY - it goes by the county and how much land you own... so I am assuming it is different in Colorado?

Thanks!
Amanda from (upstate) NY

Amanda,
You don't want to live in Elbert County. The taxes may be lower than El Paso County, but so are the services. A couple of years ago they had to close the county courthouse for a while because they couldn't afford to repair it because of mold.
