Where do public employees live? Do they get housing allowances? If you know any, please share stories. Pros/cons?

People who are employed in Aspen can apply for employee housing. Employee housing can range from a room in a giant communal-like house, to a studio apartment. Still you'll be paying $650+ for employee housing. I think there are a few places that are more like $400, but you won't have a kitchen or anything. That's the closest to a housing allowance I've ever heard. You have to HAVE a job and be a Colorado resident, or at least working toward obtaining your residency. Then, you must physically go to the employee housing office downtown. They'll find you a place.
Pros/cons: It's fairly cheap, especially if you're making big tips at a restaurant. The places are small, and usually not the most attractive or comfortable, but Aspen is a place that you shouldn't be spending too much time inside your apartment anyway. The outdoor opportunities abound in any season. Plus, you'll probably be working so much to afford everything that you won't be home hardly at all
