just moved to denver 2 weeks ago. my CA registration is due Oct 1st.

1. do i have to pay my CA registration while waiting to become a resident of CO and register it in CO? or can i just NOT pay the CA one since im waiting to register it in CO?

2. do i have to smog my car before registering my car in CO?

3. can i get a CO ID (not DL) while waiting to become a resident?

What do you mean by "waiting to become a resident"? I thought you said you already moved? What are you waiting for?

Do NOT pay your California registration! Register your car in Colorado asap. You can do that even if you've only lived here 1 day. If you pay in California, and then here, you will lose all of the money you paid in California. Yes you will have to get a smog here and then every 2 years after. Also you'll have to pay some stupid "VIN verification" fee. I don't know why. I'd never heard of it until I moved here but it's not much. It's still probably cheaper than Cali.

you have to own a business, have a paying job OR be here for 90 days to be a legal CO resident. but i fulfill #2 in a week when i start working i guess

You need not be a resident of Colorado (or any state) to register a car in Colorado.
