We're looking into the San Luis Valley area. Fire wood looks really scant
Is the fire wood close by that is allowed to be cut?

There are numerous firewood cutting areas around the San Luis Valley in the adjacent National Forests. Depending on where one is in the valley, wood cutting areas may be 25-50 miles away. Firewooding cutting is actually a "cottage industry" among some of the local residents. The National Forest people should have info on cutting areas and permits--Rio Grande National Forest in Colorado, and Carson National Forest over the state line in New Mexico.
