Exactly what I was referring too (although I'm a gal)! My point was that there are several other towns to consider besides Aspen.

During the winter months, it's unlikely you'd make Copper in 20-30 minutes from Leadville, and Vail's a bit more of a chore to get to.
Actually the OP said they were looking at being in or near a ski center. Leadville fits based on this criteria. I know several friends who live or have lived in Leadville and make the commute down to Copper or Vail on a daily basis. I'm not saying it's the best choice, but it is a choice.

Also, Vail is at the slopes ... with the lifts/gondolas at the town from several locations so everywhere in town is close to the slopes.
Yes, Vail is in fact "at the slopes," but so is Crested Butte, Breckenridge and Aspen for that matter.

Having lived in Vail for seven years and having traveled down 24 to Leadville many times I never recommend anyone live out that way and commute to Vail on a daily basis. The road in some parts is dangerous when the snow is coming in and I just don't think taking those chances is worth it. There have been a few people that have taken the 1000ft plunge near Red Cliff.

To me if you are going to do the ski town thing, then you've got to be really close or in the town. Living an hour away in some crummy town kind of defeats the purpose of being there. People often make that suggestion and it is a pointless endeavor from my perspective.

I was a ski bum in Aspen for a year and I LOVED it!! The key is to get there early (like October) and have enough cash to get by until you get a job. There is a cool little lodge, called the St. Moritz where a lot of people stay at when they first move. They have some really cheap dorm-type rooms. Unless you have a large trust fund, you'll need a roommate. Pitkin County has some apartments they rent pretty cheap. Check out Marolt Ranch. When I was there, they started renting them in October and they cost about a third of what a regular apartment would. Check out the Aspen Times and Aspen Daily News too. The best jobs are the ones in the bars and restaurants. I made enough working 4 nights / week bartending to live there, buy a season pass and go out every night. So it can be done if you plan right.

What's a dragon? I've heard the term cougar, milf, and even gilf. But Dragon has got me stumped and I even googled it and didn't find it right off.

Oh, and to the OP:

Aspen questions? Here's one; How's your aspen?

Smile If you want to be in the mountains move out to Aspen!

If you truly want to live in the mountains Aspen is a wonderful place to move to. I left Chicago 7 years ago and decided it was time for a change, so drove down I-70 until I reached Colorado. I knew I wanted a mountain town, but one that offered what a small city might. Then, I found Aspen and felt that was exactly what I was looking for. For a smaller town it offers so much more than most small towns. It has a lot of culture, nightlife, and outdoor activities. It's a great place to meet people too. There are people that come here from all over the world to live that want to meet others that are interested in the outdoors and having fun, like themselves. It is a great ski town to move to because it's not just a "ski town". It is people living in real life doing real jobs too. You can wait tables and make big cash or you can get a professional 9-5 desk job. There is so much opportunity here. You can go on mountain bike rides, hikes, and ski on your lunch break. Although it is a pricey place to live...you get what you pay for! Aspen is a very easy place to "make it work". If you want to be outdoors all day and live in town it's easy to find others to share a place with. If you want an upscale apartment to yourself, then you will have to pay more. Most of the locals don't care about that because they are too busy enjoying the town. Work is also easy to find. People are always looking for a dependable person to hire. If you need any more info on Aspen I would be glad to help. Good luck with your search.

I'll second that. Aspen is definitely a beautiful place with a neat main street and right in the middle of the mountains.

That one just struck me as funny. Disgruntled much? With that attitude, it's unlikely that you ever will meet the right one.

That's just the way it is. If one is a woman and you have an excess of supply of men and you are immature then yeah a lot of them play games.
