Default Which place is good to enjoy the Fall?

I live in Broomfield. and I'm wondering about where should we go to see the changing colors of the fall?

Aspen? Vail? or some other places? any suggestions?

any place within 2 to 3 hours driving from Denver.

Either of the above. A quick trip from Broomfield would be a drive to Nederland.

One place we love is the drive between Black Hawk and Estes Park -- Peak to Peak Highway. Take highway 119 until Nederland, then take highway 72. Of course, you can get there by going up Golden Gate Canyon, or going out of Boulder to Nederland.

Another very popular place is Kenosha Pass, on highway 285.

The fall colors are probably getting past peak now.

My favorite area for aspen fall colors is around Aspen. My favorite roads or towns for fall colors:

1. Independence Pass
2. the road out to Ashcroft south of Aspen
3. Carbondale to McClure Pass
4. Gore Pass from Kremmling(relatively undiscovered but I've gotten a lot of great pictures out there)
5. Vail and Avon
6. US 285 close to the pass near South Park, some parts of South Park as well
7. Steamboat Springs to Kremmling

Up 285 to Kenosha Pass..Peak to Peak highway are fantastic options closer to the front range..Even drives close to Denver up around Conifer/Aspen Park..upper Deer Creek offer nice colors. I plan on driving up 285 towards Fairpay with my father either Monday or Tues to run the dog and take in the scenery. South of Aspen up Independence is hard to beat as well, but that's more like 3 1/2 hours drive away. My favorite mountain town Steamboat Springs is a big winner for majestic autumn colors.

The aspen color along the Peak to Peak hwy north of Nederland is not so great this year, especially compared to last year (which was spectacular!). The color is not vibrant; many of the leaves are tinged with black and many trees are already bare. We got snow last week and high winds over the weekend. There are some spashes of color, but not at all like previous years. It's just not the best year for color in this area.

Thanks for the heads-up. That is where we usually go when we don't have time for a day trip further into the mtns. I forgot about the snow. It ruins them, that's for sure.

Up here in Summit County, the leaves are starting to peak, but probably still a few days away (still lots of aspens with completely green leaves or just starting to turn).

This morning in Silverthorne:
Which place is good to enjoy the Fall?-img_2457.jpg

waneroo has some good suggestions. Twin Lakes near Leadville (on the way to/from Independence Pass) is a great place. Aspen has nice colors, especially the Maroon Bells. Crested Butte has great fall colors, but more than 2-3 hours from Broomfield.
