Default Steamboat Area Work

Thinking about relocating to Steamboat. Have an accounting degree and an MBA. Curious about approaching TIC and/or the Resort Company about management positions.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Go for it if it's something you want to do. Most of those involved in the ski business like Vail Resorts post their job listings online. Vail for instance moved it's headquarters to Denver so most of the finance, management and marketing honchos are down there.

However there is not much demand for MBA's up in ski resorts and most people that work high up in the ski companies earned their spurs doing the grunt work on the ground in the snow, MBA or not. There is one guy I know that had an accounting background, got a unrelated job with a certain company which helped him get a very basic accounting position, but then worked his way in.

Ski towns are small, tight communities and the good jobs go to locals. There are tons of people out there with advanced degrees working for $10.52 an hour.

Default Thank you for the reply.

I understand. I did not think relocting to Steamboat would be easy. If it were, everyone would be doing it with a great deal of success.

Well that is exactly the deal, so many people want to do it and there are only so many good jobs up here. I think if you are prepared for low paid grunt work for a few years with a view towards moving up then all things are possible if you are good and bring a lot to the table. Both my sister and I worked hard and moved up the ladder, my sister choose to stay here and I left for a better life.

It is different from a big city that might have a huge plethora of jobs available. It's tough to come in from the outside and pop right into a cush job. Not impossible but improbable.

If you are really keen, just get the best job you can and go for it.
