Driving to work today in California the radio news person said that Loveland was open for skiing today? Earliest opening in 40 years? Man you Coloradans are lucky. The Tahoe slopes will not be open for another month at best. It may be a perfect excuse to visit my in laws soon and take a day to ski???? I got some demo Solomon Screams at the end of last season i am dying to try out.

Ski on one run of man-made snow? Why bother?

If I wanted to ski that, I could have stayed on the east coast

Went to Loveland yesterday for opening. It was crowded (for Loveland), but you just had to wait for the openings. Lift line was m-a-y-b-e a minute or two. Good coverage (not unexpected), getting a little scratchy in places (again, not unexpected). Sunny and warm (not necessarily good for the snow, but not bad for the skiing). All in all, not a bad day. Went again today. MUCH LESS crowded, as expected.

If you are jonesing to ski and you happen to be here, then it's worth it -- don't know about flying in just for that (remember, it is just one open run). Perhaps wait to see if we get hit with any storms the next few weeks and if they open more terrain (it's snowing outside right now).

Depending on how much the storm next week dumps, and, whether or not it opens the storm door in general, they might open later this month. Back in 2003 or 2004 (maybe both?) they opened late Oct, same deal in 2000.

Las Vegas Ski/Board Resort is open as well. Might be a quicker drive for some man made snow

Boreal (aka Boring Hill) opened last week - made snow, however, and a 50/1 boarder / skier ratio (and average age of something like 14 - LOL!).

But it's a start.
