Toyshollow, after rereading your post, you asked about the mid-western part of the state, just to say the middle and out toward the mid west part is expensive, the mid area is the prime mountain land and west of there you are talking Montrose, very pretty but expensive and Telluride, VERY expensive. I was thinking today about a very small town that is something you are kind of looking for and I thought of up around Grand Mesa near Delta. Several small towns up in there and pretty reasonable, not going to be as cheap as Tennessee but still cheaper than many places. Another possible place is Canon City area. Nadine can fill you in on that if you would like more info on it but I drove up there a few days back, didnt get to stay, but did get to see the Gorge and it is wonderful and I was awestruck at the height of the bridge. It was awesome! The town is too small for me but sounds like something you might like. I thought the people were friendly and me being Hispanic, I was on edge, but everyone was real nice. I didnt get to see any prices on anything since I had to leave and get back to work, but I am sure would be cheaper than many areas in Colorado, but wouldnt think the cheapest area. So look up the Grand Mesa area, towns like Cedaredge and Orchard City and also around Canon City. Hope you arent looking for work too, if so, you will be limited in these towns.

I would suggest you go to this website. pcsfremontcounty.com This website has been set up to draw in soldiers that will be moved to Fort Carson sometime this yr. But it is a good source of info in our area. As to jobs. Many travel to the Springs or Pueblo. Jobs are few here. After you google this area etc. If you are interested then ask away. I will try to answer.

have ya thought of the Evergreen area? bout 30 miles from denver but much higher mountain life or the nearby communitites of pine conifer and aspen park? much cheaper than aspen or vail, those are the citites populated by hollywooders who got sick of hollywood and came to screw up those little towns that used to be nice and cheap

Steamboat Springs which is a ski resort, is nestled in the mountains but expensive, compared to where you live. Craig Colorado is 45 miles west of Steamboat and a little cheaper living.

Yes Colorado is growing and the Western slope is one of the nicest places..

Grand Junction is a nice town and larger than Montrose but Montrose has the views.

Delta has some great buys and is a sleeper ... Prices have leveled a bit and many have come down in these areas.. Check them out.
