If you want to actually experience Arches NP close up and personal rather than merely driving thru it and looking at it, hike the 7.2 primitive loop trail, or even just a portion of it. It is spectacular! It may well be the highlight of your journey.

One of the most exciting drives I ever had (exciting in a literal sense; frightening and death-defying is equally descriptive) was on the million dollar highway on a Labor Day weekend many years ago.

There were rocks falling from the mountainsides, hail falling from the sky. It made no sense to stop and pull over; that left us equally in danger, so we kept going, slowly, hoping we were dodging the boulders rolling off the slopes, while the thunder clapped.
