i have to throw my two cents in here....in about 3 weeks, i will officially have lived in delta for 3 years....we came from southern california, and my kids (as well as myself) were COMPLETELY city-fied....my kids are currently 13 and 9, and they absolutely ADORE it here, they love to go fishing, they love how wide open and rural everything is, and have said on many occasions "mom, i never want to go back to california!!"

i have only found extreme friendliness here - even though i am not "born and bred" here, the residents here welcomed us with open, friendly arms, and have never made us feel like "you don't REALLY belong here".....

yes, they talk about meth here, but meth was a huge problem where we moved FROM - there are drugs everywhere you go, unfortunately....but i think they are keeping close tabs on it....

i'm also fairly happy with the school system - there are some things that could be better, but they are improving all the time....

as far as crime, you almost NEVER hear a siren going here in delta, and when you do, EVERYBODY turns around to see what it is and where they're headed....

i probably seem like i paint delta with a rosy paintbrush, but all the good i have found here FAR outweighs whatever bad there might be....

just my two cents - i hope it somehow helps....

I currently reside in Garfield Co. and miss Delta Co. a lot. Delta has great recreation options for everyone adults and children. The Bills Heddles Rec. Ctr. is one of the best in CO, as far as I'm concerned. Deltas' public schools have been known to be some of the best around. As far as drugs are concerned, they are everywhere and we must educate our children against the use of them and hope for the best. Kudos to the City for the beautiful landscaping downtown Delta and Confluence Park have to offer.

Would like to comment for future readers - I have lived all over the US including Alaska. There is a "meth problem" everywhere. One must now assume that. There are sex offenders everywhere, and you should be worried about them, assume that as well. I have looked into this carefully, as I've been a victim. They get away with a lot, no sugar-coating that I am afraid. They go to Alaska and small Colorado towns to hide, I have found, among other places of course... But most of us, just don't lead the kind of life where we'll wrangle with them or the cookers. If you hear a generator in the night and inquire... you will find out quickly if your local cops are clean or not.
Have been carefully looking into Delta, seems great in most ways, I could love it... except for the heat! Best to all.
